It's been really slow the few times I've gone. Has anybody been hitting the coho off the beach? Don't tell me about those slimy humpies, I'm a coho snob!

So far, my guess would be about 20 Pinks to every 1 Silver from Whidbey's S. end beaches. Although I did hear this morning that a few coho were landed yesterday.

What is the word on silvers from Pt. Wilson, anyone know? Or humpies for that madder.

I would be one of those guys on the beach. It was a bit crowded, but nearly everyone was pulling in fish. Most were pinks (they ARE running now, after all), but I saw a few coho in the mix.

Fished Point No Point yesterday on the afternoon tide and just about everyone except me who was doin' the buzz bomb routine got their one fish. I threw half my vest arsenal at those darn coho but couldn't even draw a bite! Well, at least my pop got one. All 8 fish i saw caught were resident fish of about 3-5lbs. The fish have been hitting chartreuse and hot pink for the most part. I think my fish catching mojo was ruined in part by the darn dog swimming in the water harassing everyone.

Fished Casey Sat., only hit 1 coho about 5-6 lbs. Also landed and released 2 or 3 humpies caught on herring under the bobber. One of the guys I was fishing with caught a 20-25 lb. king[clipped] with the herring under the bobber, we tailed and released it. What a nice fish, said his bobber made a "blooop" sound as it went under.

Fished Point No Point on Thursday and Monday. Monday, two fish caught. One of them was a wild coho my dad landed and that I helped release. Lost one myself. Thursday when i got there the water was really choppy. Saw two guys land a nice chunky humpy from the calmer water. Missed a few strikes(could have been anything from seaweed to bottomfish to salmon). Saw one bonked as I left. According to a fly fishermen, the fly crowd got a few in the morning.

Fished Ft Casey this morning (float & herring). Got one keeper coho around 7 pounds, tuned back a small blackmouth, and a small seal pup! When I saw the float go down and felt the wieght I thought I had a good one. Lucky for both of us the hook pulled out.
In the hours that I fished I saw half a dozen coho taken. Didn't see any pinks.

West and North beach @ Deception produced no coho that I saw this weekend, and very few pinks. Since the water was so nice, I zipped out to Lawson Reef and halfway to Smith island. No fish, not one hit all weekend. cry
Checker at Cornet bay said it had slowed down in the last day or two with 9 coho, 4 pinks on Saturday around 3ish when I went in.

Sat. fished West side of San Juan, one pink, then got another off Dungeness. Today fished the North Beach of Deception Pass from the beach and only saw two pinks caught. No Silvers!!! beathead Last Sunday off San Juan, the wife got 4 pinks and I lost a screamer king.
Seems to be slowing down, but all those silvers at Sekiu have to go right past here. laugh

Spent al day sun. working the local shorelines primarily fishing for sea run cuttys.Saw one silver role that is it.They have note turned the corner yet.

I do have to say though that the sea run cutties have rebounded that last few years for whatever reasons. We spent a solid six hours drifting with the tide sixty feet off the shore working the first ten feet of the shore.we released several fish that were two feet long! When you get into a school of them you would be playing one with five more chasing it looking for the food.It was incredible! It is going to be hard to go to work today....eddit..**** work I am going fishing banana

Fished Bush Pt. with a few friends on Sunday. Pinkfest 2003 is winding down, though I did manage to bring in one. I only saw one silver caught, though. Slow day.

Still, the weather cooperated and it was a lovely morning.

I'll be back next weekend.

Rockfish,
I thought about you the other day cutty fishing.I have never seen them that thick or big ever!

Did the hansville thing again today. There seemed to be a morning bite,at least for a couple of guys tossing cut plugs.I thought I was the only one that did that! The rest of the afternoon was dead.A few fish moving through but none caught.

Fished herring at Ft Casey this AM. Got 1 7# silver. Saw 2 others caught by about a dozen other anglers. Only a couple of buzz bombers were out. On the way back to the ferry I stopped at the old weigh station and counted about 20 buzzbombers still at it. About every 4th bomber had a humpie. Also stopped at Possession Pt Bait to get tomorrows ammunition. The lady in the bait house said that there was only 1 guy there all morning and he was fishless. Looks like the big schools of silvers are still at Sieku...

Fished Point No Point from 9:30-12:00, saw one really small one landed, another just a couple anglers down, and one as I was on my way to the beach. According to one fly fisherman, the guys fishing herring got the morning fish. The two fish I saw landed were caught in calmer water west of the lighthouse. Puny one was caught on herring, the other on a white buzz bomb.

Nice bite tonight at Ft Casey. Fished the afternoon ebb tide. 9 strikes, 4 silvers landed, kept a pair of 8 pounders. Gotta learn to not pull the trigger so soon. Old steelheader here has to learn to let them take the herring!!! I see that darn float go under and i'm whipping that rod back!!! Will give it another shot tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Somethingsmells fishy

Possession Pt Bait is just to the right of the green boxcar. You can pull your boat right up on their beach. PSA has a return of silvers to that area so there is a decent live bait fishery right in front of PPB. bring a 5 gl pail & get a dozen live herring. Fun to watch the float dance when the herring sees mr silver zeroing in! By road from the ferry turn left on Cultus Bay Rd and follow it past Cultus Bay. It'll wind around and you'll take a right when you see the PPB sign. 2nd or 3rd driveway on the left. It's about 10 minutes from the ferry. Good luck!

If you're gonna buy frozen herring buy Jerry's baits... almost as good as fresh... the rest is crap....

Pacific bait absolutely sucks... even had some ballard bait that sucked...

nice to hear of a place local to get some fresh though, thanks

fish on...

i would have to agree with the jerry ballard comparison.I have been buying jerrys and my friend has been bringing ballard, out of a case he bought.Too mushy to get a cut plug out of.You could tell the diferance between the two in the brine bucket.

Spent another sunday working our local shorelines for cuttys.Cutty catching once again was awsome but the local silver's are starting to worry me.

Fished Casey Sat. morning[had to wait for the young kid to open the gate,in the past the older guys would open the gate early for us fishermen] cnr one about 5 lbs had a nice one grab my bait , thrash the surface and was gone. About halfway through the incoming moved a couple of miles north and ended up cnr-ing 6 and lost another 6 or 8. Funny to hear the buzzbombers "look, he's got another on!" Maybe the fish are finally here hello

Fished Point No Point again. Caught and released a spunky 4/5lber. Dad lost a 7/8lber that busted his line. Two herring fishermen got two. Other than that there was a lot of salad around 2 before the current picked up and swept that annoying stuff away. Hardly any jumpers, but the water had a fishy look to it all day. The small gulls were all over the place. Twice I saw gulls going after a school of bait. Then another time from the south end of the beach came a squadron of the little guys that blitzed the water in front of me and a couple other guys.
