Sky-Guy,

VERY Impressive...

If you can duplicate that feat on Saturday the 6th, you will probably be $1,500 richer.

Last year's $1,400 winner was only about 8 1/2# cleaned weight.

One week and counting till the Derby. There are some bigger fish showing up. A buddy caught 2 the weighed over the 10lb mark cleaned and had limits by noon for 4, targeting only coho. Get out and buy a ticket, could be worth $1,500.00

I just got home from another test fishery in advance of the derby. Yesterday I got a clipped Coho that wieghed 12# on my scale. We tested it this morning with a certified weight and found it to be pretty close, maybe off by a few ounces. So there are bigger Coho out there. This morning we released what would have been Coho limits for the 3 of us. Fishing was slower today. There was alot of buzz at the marina about next Saturday's derby....I think it will be a good one!

Can somebody tell me the logistics for boats, dock space and sling time for the derby? I'm imagining that the sling will be busy from the 5 am early start time for a couple of hours.

Even more chaotic might be the return trip. If everybody is coming in between noon and 2, won't the marina be a zoo?

I'm considering putting in at Shilshole, which would mean trying to tie up at a guest slip for the weigh-in... which sounds impossible!

Any tips would be appreciated.

tdickenson,

It can be a little challenging, but not as bad as you might think. Last year, the hard-core guys were there first in line at about 4:15 waiting for the sling.

They operate 2 slings simultaniously, and they can pump the boats in-and-out surprisingly quickly.

Skippers were depositing people on the dock to make the weigh-in time while they waited for the sling.

We try to make the awards "ceremony" brief and get to the raffle. Everyone with a ticket really should make an effort to attend the raffle -- lots of good stuff.

Went to my Chiropractor today. The secretary there said they spent Friday night through Monday night out out fishing on their new boat out of Everett and Edmonds. They limited on Coho everyday with the biggest going 15 pounds. Looks like things are shaping up for the derby!!!!

I'm seeing more and more reports of Coho in the mid to high teens coming in around Edmonds this past week or so. That's a good sign. Only two more days to get tickets.

Nothing like the macho Discovery Bay Derby in February, where he who can take the worst weather/water wins.

Ever notice how the term "calm" is not in the NWS vocabulary?

So how we going to know who is who at the derby? You guys going to have name tags or anything? It would stink to know alot of you are there and not know who any of you are.

I will be wearing my lucky (big-coho-catchin) black raven T-shirt.
