What depth/tackle do you guys use to target the larger returning silvers versus the smaller residents or pinks?
I have been picking up lots of small ones at Jeff Head on a green flasher with a small silver hootchie rigged 24" behind and either herring strips or sand shrimp scent. I've been trolling this fast with 50 feet of cable out & a 10lb weight. Also got kings & pinks on this rig on sunday.
For a while I was using a hooded herring behind a fish-flash and a 2.5 oz weight (no downrigger) but I kept losing herring to the small ones and very few actual hookups. More often than not I would discover I had been trolling with an empty hook as the herring had been pulled off by a small fish. When I did manage to hookup on the herring, they were decent fish.
I'm curious what works for others?

My friend fished Edmonds Monday morning, they got a 9 pounder and 12 pounder. From other reports in the same area, I'd say screw the humpies and target the Coho. Looks like the timing of the Coho Derby this weekend is perfect. Cigar
