Many salt fishers now seem to favor glo squids, glo flashers, etc.. Do they really work better than non-glo?
How many of you charge them up w/ flashlight or camera flash?

I just finished a little experiment with 2 + 2 idental Yama****a double glo squid. 2 had inserts of glo flashabou. (also tried glo tape)
I conducted the experiment in our bathroom with nom lights (so it was quite dark).. I controlled the experiment so that 2 were charged and their twins not.. There was a deffinite difference -- you couldn't see the non charged ones, period. However the charged ones only lasted about 10-12 minutes before they were barely more discernible than the non chgd, which weren't visable at all..
So do you believe they are effective?? What is your technique??

I'd especially like to hear from the D/R ' guru'..

If this was someones 'big secret', I'm sorry, please cut me a little slack. wink laugh

Hey Peri....

The non glow versions work becuase they cast a siloheutte against a background. They are still effective at any depth. However, remember the color spectrum. Greens, blues, purples are the last to fade and red, yellow, and orange turn gray in color first. Black and white (Cop Car) present a very strong silohuette!

As far as glow versions.. the key thing to remember is, just because they fade for us doesn't mean fish don't see them - they do - long after the "human" fade has disappeared.

Zooplankton and phytoplankton emit bioluminescence. So glow version offer a more natural environment for Mr Salmon. Not to mention he can see it a little better..

Hope this helps!

Downrigger, you are "THE MAN".. I've been around for years and years, but I have learned quite a bit from you-- many thanks. You must have lots of reading time on that 'tin can', (can't remember what the flat ones are called)

By the way,, I took a grand slam and 2 imitations that I had tied up w/ lots of glo flashabou. One had the head wrapped in flashabou like you would wrap peacock hearl. Both of my flys put the G/S to shame for 'glo' longevity. (esp the glo head)

Thanks --- bring on the 'B mouth' smile
