I have decided to try my own approach, to resolve the Snagger, and the thief Story. I drove to the Quilcene river today. I had a few thoughts as to what my day was going to end up like. I took precautions to avoid any severe problems. I took with me the rods of choice that were borrowed from a snagging SOB, Who has no clue as to what a father is obligated to provide his children. Morals,Values, and right and wrong...And In this case Respect for a precious resource.
I took my 9mm, I have had a CWP for 7 years and never once even contemplated taking it from my side. I value and respect life and the loss of it. I took my cell,WDFW Regs, and this note was placed on the bank where the rods were borrowed from with the rods and the regs, and my name and home phone number..

Dear Sir,
As you already know these rods were taken from this same spot last week. I have decided to return them to you for one reason and one reason only. I am not acting out of guilt for taking them, nor do I think that you deserve to have these rods and enjoy the sport of fishing for salmon in this state. It is a not a right to enjoy our resources but a privlidge. With that comes a simple rule you must follow you owe it to me,my kids, your kids, and every person in this state.
RESPECT WHAT YOU HAVE.. **** you live on a river choked with fish your a lucky guy why ruin it by going to jail,having your gear taken, and putting yourself in physical danger, and most of all teaching your kids that this is ok to do. It is not. The Quilcene is fish full but what if your kids move away and live on the banks of the HoH,Sol Duc, Kalama,Hoko Physt, Green, Yakima,etc,etc, The point being not every river can afford to be raped by people like you. You would be surprised at what a few snaggers,poachers,in the right place at the right time can do to a resource that is fragile. You may not be aware of fish related issues and that is your choice, however like you were teaching your kids Its my turn to teach you a lesson.
I have secured your name,address,river location, and provided WDFW with pictures of your gear and a statement regarding what I saw you do,What you said, and what actions I took. I have provided you with a copy of the regs in your area,Phone ##, for questions, and a bill for half the gas money i spent driving out to your town to deliver gear you dont deserve to have. If I ever see you out on this river,any river teaching kids to snag fish, poach,rape the resource you dont own I will make it my life long goal to ruin any chance you have of fishing,snagging again in this state. Consider this a promise not a threat.
I will close with an offer to take you or you and your kids on a fishing trip to the coast where you can show your kids how to catch fish the right way, and teach them to respect the resource they are lucky enough to have in this state.
Those are the reasons I borrowed your gear....

The best part is, if he takes the letter even a bit serious he will think twice before snaggin now. He will not know whos watching or what they might do.

Were his kids old enough to read? It would be cool if the snagger's kids found the note before he did.

good job. probably a great lesson for him. did you put the letter in a water proof bag. hopefully it didnt get too wet to read

Snapper, that was a class move. If he takes you up on your offer , it should make for one hell of an interesting day....I'd keep that 9mm handy in case he reverts to his old ways!! Chrome

i have never seen some one snagg a fish while I ws fishing tht did not throw it back. But once on my way home the guy in front of me in a covertable caddy throw his big glup out the window. I picked it up and followed him to the next stop sing and parked infront of him. I got out and walked up to his car with the big gulp and handed it back to him " you dropped this try putting it in your own trash" and I walked to my truck and drove home. You can watch and whine or you can do something. Now I would not have done it with my kid in the car for safty reasons, but I would with the wife (shes good with a shatter gun).

Not sure why the need to carry a gun. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Since you left a note with a bill, and an offer, I will look forward to another update. This is better than survivor..

Thanks to all who responded to my post. to answer the few questions that were posted.
My phone has not been ringing with a quilcene number on my caller ID.
#2 I took my firearm with me because I often do when I travel away from my home area to fish. Dont think I was going all that way and not go trekking around for new fshing holes. I also would be dumb to not anticipate a potential problem if I were to run into this guy and a few friends who would be thinking about the movie Deliverence with Burt Reynolds Soooeeeeyyyy Boyyyyy. I said I value life and mine is #1on the list...
#3 The note was put into a waterproof box that was protected.
and obvious.

P.S. I retrieved those rods from a youth organazation that takes kids on trips sometimes fishing. In return I donated a check for $100.00 to be used for the kids next trip.....

Good move Gettnsnapper, nice follow up to a nasty situation. Everyone should be so inclined to do something at times like that, anything ( in reason) would be better than some of the "I don't want to get involved" attitude that i have seen. Should we ever cross paths i will give you $10.00 to pay my share of the money that you spent to get back those rods and to show my solidarity in our cause to uphold our values and protect our resourses, Brovo.....Fishy..............

Great job Snapper. I also would have been packing, and often do when going into remote/new areas.

The guy could of shown up ready to do bodily harm. Would it be better if Snapper got the shiiiat kicked ut of him? Or have a tool that could be used to whatever extreem deemed neccesary to disolve the situation.
