Looks like it blown out too. Vedder River campground had to be evacuated due to flooding.

Fished the Vedder Saturday and Sunday. Hung some huge kings ranging 30-60lbs, but the river is quite higher than normal. With the size of the fish and the strength of the currents, it was near impossible to bring them in. The majority of the fish are hugging the bank 4-10ft from shore to avoid the slick water. Some beautiful, bright fish came through late Saturday afternoon. I brought back a couple of bright coho in the 7-8lb range. Red and pink yarn working the best..

I was there on sunday and brought back a 36# spring. Right now the water is about 3 times as high as it was on Sunday, and it was almost too high to fish then.

Guys,
We have plans to head up there for the first time within 2 weeks.
Please recommend your gear + technique.
I just want to fit in, you know.

Thanks

I have fished the Vedder dozens of times for more than 15 years. To fit in you need a 10 1/2 foot rod and floats. Use the same dink floats you can buy here, and use either a small piece of pink, cerise, or red yarn, or good eggs.

Expect huge crowds, but expect lots of fish. Stop at Fred’s, in Vedder crossing for latest info and gear. If the river is down to normal flows fish from Fred's downstream. Lickman Rd. has easy access. If the river is dirty head up the Vedder River road past Slesse Park until, you find clean water.

You can get your license at the True Value in Lynden or at Fred's. It will cost about $95, if you get a salmon retention tag. I find most Canadian anglers friendly and ethical. Remember to pinch you barbs and remember that many Canadians consider chums scrap fish.
