My buddy has a 22' Classic with an inboard 350. The current pump is a Kodiak three stage. The shop wants $4500 to upgrade to a Hamilton 212. That sounds like alot of money to me, but if there is a market for his old pump, that could offset some of the cost.
Is the a used pump market? Is the Hamilton pump that much better? Is this a fair price?
Should he do it?

I have never seen a used inboard pump for sale. You'd have to find someone who is building a boat, and then explain to them why the pump you are selling is available. Let's see, "I liked the color scheme of the Hamilton better..."

I think you're looking at a throwaway.

Don't know if it is worth it or not, unless the original one is shot. Why upgrade?? Hamilton was the original, and are by far the best, but if you can't afford a Ferrari, a good Chevy will do the same task.

I obviously don't know alot about pumps. I just assumed that they wear out or break from time to time. If that is not the case then he probably won't do the upgrade.
But, you guys didn't say though whether the Hamilton IS a better pump? Would he see a diiference in performance?
