Now it's time to clean out the Garage! Just kiddin Bob, nice 12 pack!
Pretty good shot placement too, so tell us the story, where did you bag him? Did you call him on, or stumble on him?
Now its time for (like Bubba Gump shrimp from Forest Gump) Elk Steaks, Elk Jerky Elk Hamburger, Elk Chops, Elk Roast... you get the idea.

You had to have gotten it close to home. Without gutting it,you don't move an animal like that very far.

I was surprised that it wasn't at least gutted....that is one big bodied animal, any guesses on his overall weight? I never got one out hole with his guts to see - don't really like leaving the guts in em anyway, best off to leave those for the yotes. I kinda thought that the shot placement s a little high, but then again - it is hanging your garage!

Thanks Guys, yep, hauled him out whole. You see, I own 80 acres in this little valley, and besides growing a few beef on it, I grow a whole lot of elk, most years there are 30 or so wintering here. Every once in a while a nice bull is kind enough to drop by during hunting season. Anyway, I was glassing the back pasture, noticed this big boy sneaking out of the brush for a bite occasionally, so I went and bought my tag, set up in the blackberries along the fence at the other end of the field, and waited for him to come out. In about an hour, as soon as the shadows hit that corner of the pasture, he stepped out of his hidey-hole, stepped over the fence, started to graze about 200 yards away, and I lowered the boom on him with the 30-06. Right through the fat part of both lungs. He went back over the fence, ran 50 feet, and fell over stone dead. Drove the tractor right up to him, hauled him to the shop, and hung him up. Took about 10 minutes, plus of course several hours of skinning and gutting. And all day today cutting him up - whew! Pretty much like butchering beef

So you gonna try to geta big one later? Salmon rivers are gonna get crowded again, once elk season is over.

Its funny I to was lucky enough to fill my tag this year.the rack on your s looks darn near identical with that small fork on the left side. They could have been twins.at least you could pack him with a tractor I had to quarter mine and pack it out six and a half miles.any ways that is a very nice bull.
