Man, those are some nasty Old slimmy Boots! eek

Must have been fun to hoist in. laugh I am sure there are some people that will smoke an Old Boot in a NY second. Just hope that when they were released, the struggle didn't cause the eggs to eventually be aborted without fertilization in a Reed Bed. I have caught a few ripe fish in my day and some did abort while I was releasing them. Not very good for future fish stocks.

Now if you wanna have some fun slamming Old Slimmy boots, Hoodsport is a hoot. And those Chum(In abundant Supply and not endangered) really put up a battle. moose

Look like some typical coastal fall fish to me.

Has nothing to do with fishing on beds.

It's the strain of fish. Obviously TM knows enough that they weren't fit for table fare and did the proper thing by releasing them instead of wastin' them!

Wanna example from our book?

Early October, Pacific Ocean can be both seen and heard, tailed sea-lice all over this fish ... typical big fall boot. Fun to catch, not so fun to eat ... and I have no shame in sharing the picture of what was Corey's first salmon from Washington State ... almost 20 lbs. larger than anything she'd landed on the Kenai growing up.

Glad you got into a mess of 'em Kevin!

I'm OK with Cory catching a dark salmon in spawning condition for her first one. But when it gets to intentionally catching thirty for the exercise, I say go to the gym.

These fish are close to being dead. They will never recover any body reserves and still must finish their migration and spawn. Energy the fish spends trying not to be landed is that much less that can go into spawning. These salmon have already provided for fisheries in the ocean, the bays and the rivers where they are great fish to catch.

When they get that close to spawning, leave them alone.

Like we can help catching these fish when fishing for other types. Before you know it, PETA will be monitoring all the boards and moaning and groaning about everything.

Like Timber said, they were targeting silvers, not the kings, and if you ask me these fish can take more than one knows.

Keep on taking pictures of these "live" fish, its better than doing like many would....keeping these fish and wasting them when they get home.

Just my .02 ,

For those with a problem with these fisheries. The next major reg cycle will be in a couple of years. I'd suggest a proposal that closes all coastal river to fishing because the majority of kings look like this ... whether you're upstream or downstream.

Ever wonder why you see the majority of harvested fish on our pages being silvers.

As I mentioned previously, you might as well as close the saltwater as well ... because a number of fish there look the same. Here's a derby pic from 2002 at La Push:

Now I'm off to have some fun catching fish smile

Go ahead and hook a chinook like the one pictured with TM.

After it kicks your ass, you can tell us how close to death it was.

Man, the whole world is a critic sometimes.
