NEWS RELEASE

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

November 13, 2003

Contact: Pat Pattillo, (360) 902-2705

WDFW seeks nominations to fishery advisory group

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is currently accepting nominations through Dec. 5 for membership on its sport fishing advisory group.

Up to 20 qualified individuals will be chosen to serve as citizen advisers in 2004, providing guidance to the department in establishing fishing seasons that meet conservation and harvest goals for salmon and marine fish.

Members of the Anadromous and Marine Resources Sport Fishing Advisory Group are also expected to participate in the annual North of Falcon season-setting process and communicate policy decisions to sport fishing groups in their areas.

“We’re looking for people with first-hand knowledge of the fisheries and an ability to communicate with both fishery managers and their fellow anglers,” said Pat Pattillo, WDFW salmon policy coordinator. “Our advisors are a key link between the department and the fishing community.”

Nominees need not be affiliated with an organized group and current members of the advisory group may be reappointed.

Nominations must be received by Dec. 5. Submit nominations to the attention of Pat Pattillo, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 6000 Capitol Way N., Olympia WA 98501-1091, or fax to (360) 902-2158. For more information, contact Pattillo directly at (360) 902-2705.

Have you been nominated, Dave?

I think you could be a valuable asset to Washington sportfishers if you could get on an advisory council.

What do you think?

Dan

They love kissie up people! I don't known if some people can shallow enough BS to do it!

Two years ago, I was told that I was a nominated for that same position by a very important regional WDFW staff person who really cared about our resources. He also told me that he knew that his "superiors" would not choose me because I was a very outspoken person who often put WDFW on the spot for there stupid policies and rules. That person is now retired, and I can no longer get such information.

But you can rest assured; the people who they will choose to be in this group will be people who they can trust, and will not put them on the spot or make waves!

More of the same and nothing will ever get changed!

Does anyone really think that they (WDFW) would choose people who would bring on change?

AuntyM: Thanks for the vote of confidence. I especially appreciate it knowing that we disagree on many subjects. However, I simply can't stand meetings, and I don't think I'm as diplomatic I should be. I have however refrained from calling CFM a curmudgeon or anything worse so I guess I do have some diplomatic skills! smile smile

AuntyM:

Your words ring true. I think that you may have put a finger on the problem. I don't know how smart I am, but I have spent my life fishing in Washington - more than 50 years since I yanked that first yellow perch from Spencer Lake.

I think I will nominate myself. If they should chose me I will sit through their meetings, and give them the perspective of a lifelong Washington angler. Maybe I could do a little to make the meetings less boring.

I will let you know how this goes.

Surecatch

I find this topic very interesting.

I was notified of this several months ago and asked to give nomination. I assumed that every other sport fishing group was also notified at the same time. It would appear to me that maybe you are looking for a few people to nominate you since you do not apparently represent any group yourself. Could be wrong on this, but most likely not!

Personally, I don't think that you got the guts to represent all forms of fishermen and would be extremely basis with your own agenda. All one has to do his review your postings and make up there own minds. I for one would like to get some people in there that really represent all fishermen, and not just their own special views. Can you do that? Can you tell our members that you will represent ALL of there views instead of just your own views?

FM: God you must get tired of always being wrong. I have NO desire to serve on that committee. None, zero. I am not looking for any group to nominate me. If I were I have affiliations with several. That would not be a problem.

If I were to end up on such a committee, I would simply represent my views. No more no less. I wouldn't want to speak for any constituency but myself. Does that sound like a campaign speech to you? If so your paranoia is deeper than I feared.

I posted the topic because I received the news release that I posted verbatim.

Aunty was right I'm too smart to run. I would have to deal with too many people such as you.

Gee, that was a short career in politics, but invigorating!

Well, surecatch.............even if cfm is too cynical an old ******* to think you could make a differnce, I think you could. You don't need to represent every angler in the state.......that's not what's asked of the position.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to nominate you, unless I get an email telling me not to. We need someone with a good name and reputation to represent our interests in these meetings. I think you have both.

I'm going to wait until a couple days before the deadline to send in my nomination..........I hope you'll consider it seriously and not let some detractors get the best of you.

The worst thing that could happen is that cfm would be right. Naah............never happen. wink

cfm.....that word starts with bas and ends with tard. wink

As a group, sports fishers are prone to not getting involved. What we see here is a small percentage of people willing to speak out. For every one of us there are hundreds or even thousands who have opinions but choose to remain silent in public. This is not specific to fishing either. It happens all across the spectrum of political and personal issues. I see it in my job all the time. The smokers stand outside and have all kinds of opinions but get them in a meeting and they have no contribution to the discussions at all. So it is for folks like myself to stick our necks out and risk getting our heads chopped off. The real trick to be on one of these groups is to be able to voice opinions but also listen. Not to listen while tapping your feet impatiently waiting for your turn to speak, but really listening. You can't be a CROCODILE.....that would be a creature with a big mouth and little ears.....That doesn't mean you have to agree with what you hear but atleast you listen.

Auntym:

Sure, I care about shrimp and crabs. I love to eat them! I have never done any shrimping even though I owned a lot on the Thauya River for years and I hear it can be good around there. I do know the little store at Tahuya, which at one tiume was owned by a friend of mine, sold one heck of a lot of Puss N Boots .

As for crabs, I would rather eat them - dungeness that is- than any other food in the world. I think all crabbing should be turned over to the commercials so I can buy it for less! Just kidding. The devil made me say that. If elected, I will sell my vote for any reasonable donation of dungeness crab. Damn, there I go campaigning again!

I only recently bought a boat adequate to take me crabbing and I just bought a couple of pots. now I need to know where to put them. I bet CFM and grandpa could tell me! smile
