OK, seems like things have calmed down a bit, so I was thinking it might be time for a little fun and games. With Bob’s permission, I propose a contest to see who can be the first to “Name that River”.

I was grounded this weekend, so I went through some of the old archives and stumbled upon some pictures of THE most memorable driftboat trip I have ever taken (and there have been some doozies let me tell you). But this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was beyond expectations in more ways than any of us could have ever imagined. But already I’m giving away far too much information, so more on that later.

Here’s what I propose:
The first person that can name this river, the area or section and how you arrived at your answer (a guess is acceptable), will win a GRAND PRIZE of a slightly used, but highly prized, Original Little Cleo Wigl Lure (see picture below).

Rules:
1. Winner will be determined after next Sunday.
2. If there is no correct answer by Sunday, additional clues will be provided until a winner is finally determined on the subsequent Sunday.
3. You may post as many times as you wish, but only your first post will be eligible to win the GRAND PRIZE (see picture below).
4. The river is located somewhere in the northwest, which we will limit to the states of WA or OR.

Please understand that all due consideration has been given to your concerns about disclosure of a favorite Zipperlip. If you are the least bit concerned about posting a zipperlip, have no worries, as it would be an incorrect answer anyway; so don’t bother posting. If you are still concerned then simply PM me and I will reassure you that it is DEFINITELY NOT that river. Which brings us to the first (and only) clue you should need:

Where no man had ever drifted before,
Man will drift no more.
Pure as fresh snow melt,
The zipper has given way
To a locked chastity belt.

Lotsa luck.

Hmmm, must be a river that's been dammed up?

None taken, Mike. Ahh, but you are a wise man to shake the tree and wait for fruit to fall.

For further clarification, PM's will count as a post. So make your first quesses count.

ltlcleo, It's gotta be killing you, isn't it. Now you'll have Originals dancing in your head for the rest of the week. Dream on! (About steelies rising to take the bait as easily as you did that is. laugh )

I can hear the pages of the Gazetteer's flipping even now. Keep those cards and letters coming!

Mooch,

I also think Mike correctly interpreted your clue. My guess: upper Wynoochee upstream of present dam site, making the photos a good 30 years old.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

stlhdr1,

What makes you think we were fishing? wink
Hell???
Man, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! laugh
Might've too, if it weren't for a few mates. beer
But even if I had, sadly I couldn't have stayed. So guess I'm back to working out my salvation with fear and trembling, Philippians 2:12.
Speaking of guesses, how about one, stlhdr?
And speaking of trembling, just keep on shaking that tree. Another clue is bound to fall out. cool

Already been guessed but I think upper Green or Cedar. My thinking was it didn't have to be a dam that closed it but they both have em & I changed my mind when I thought of the gate at the headworks. Nice boulder garden in pic#3.

Now daggonnit,

Ya got a drift boat up there. That has been used for 20 foot and longer sleds for years now ya got drifters in there.

Just can't keep 'em zippers for long can ya?

Other than that I have no guess 'cept was it the Cispus before flooding? I fished that river about 40 years ago.

I'd Say upper Cedar river about 20 years ago. How did you get your boat in there? Must have had some help from high places.
How do I know for sure? ...one great memory and good analyst skills.

Edit, to further answer your question, the section is within the upper watershed, cant tell exactly where. would guess you either ran from the Fort Titon area down to the lake, or from Cedar falls area down to Bagley Junction area. I will tell you exactly how I came to my conclusion once the contest is over.

the pics were taken from a 110 camera, circa 1979 - 1982, so if they weren't fishin closed waters, it's a river that was open possibly as late as 1982 & now closed...
