I'm going to be vacationing on Kauai next week and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good guides on the island to try fishing for whatever is in season. Fly fishing would be cool, but I'm open to almost anything. Any suggestions?

Fish when you get back. Seriously though, you may have to take an island hop to get to any fishing.

You could always watch the surfers or take a whale tour.

Are you looking for big game (wahoo, mahi mahi, cuda's) or small game beach fishing?

There's a Peacock Bass lake near Koloa Town on the Poipu side. It used to be a sugar mill reservior. There used to be a guide that fished it named Tom Christy who called himself Cast and Catch Fresh Water Bass Guides phone # 808 332 9707. I don't know the cost since it was a freebee to me. We did not catch any big ones but it was fishing. Of course how impressed can one be with a spiny fresh water bass. Offshore is the only game over there really. Most charters work out of Nawiliwili Harbor near Lihue. Used to be about 4 of them. A couple more may still work out of Port Allen further up the coast also. I'd check the internet for current information.

Thanks for the input. I am open to just about anything. I tried the bass thing about 5 years ago and got skunked, but it was unusually cold and even the guide could not get a bite. Big saltwater fish would be great, but I realize it is not prime time for most of those fish right now.

Guide yourself. Hit Waita on foot and pound any water you can. I fished this a lot in high school and Pop-Rs and blue Kangaroo worms were the ticket for largies. For tucs nothing beats a live tilapia...

i'd try to hit the mouth of the waimea r. for some bonefish or papio/ulua..or anywhere else you see guys fishing....bring a surf rod or two...dunk/plunk some squid/tako... kaua'i has some killa shore fishin'...
