Color seemed to be pretty well recovered by Saturday from the effects of the "slide". Even though the color and clarity was greatly improved Saturday over Friday, we had a much better day on Friday. Go figure. And even though the river is a lot clearer below the Calawah, we did a lot better... well you get the picture. All around things seemed to be back to "normal" on the Bogey. SNABU

Mooch, Were you on the Bogey today? I fished it today. How did you like that storm that blew through about 10:30 this morning. We managed 6 fish on and 3 to the boat.
I have to say, I'm very unimpressed with the hatchery Brats and their inabilitity to give a good fight. Pretty short lived fight.
Still a good time was had by all.
Beats doing my bathroom tile.

Some but very limitted.

Right up around the hatchery there is a little this is the only place you can cross in low water.

Down below much is private. Around the steal ridge on the goodman mainling there is some on both sides of the river above and below.

Other than that there isnt much if any access

There is a logging road off of the La Push road that gets you close to the cable hole but then you have to beat the brush a little.

There are ways to get into other places as I have seen bank anglers from the boat but I have no idea how they got there.

Charr,
ya i was there alright. That was some bit'o'weather for a moment. We'd just dropped out of the hatchery hole when that squall hit. The hail was coming down so hard I couldn't see the chute dropping down into the Calawah. We must've looked like a couple of idiots coming in to the hole to anyone that could've seen through that stuff. All, I gotta say is thanks to Helly Hansen. After that everything was fine. But that's Forks for you.

Did you catch the two guys trying to wade across the river just below the ramp in the dark? We took off at 7:00 in complete darkness and spotted a light in the middle of the river about where the hatchery inlet is and thought it was a boat anchored up. As we passed by them we realized it was two guys just barely hanging on to each other trying to get across. I don't think they made it but I don't know how they would've made it back either. Wow. eek

BB75,
What Rich says. What little banking I've done required a fair amount of hiking. Having said that, I am always amazed at the number of bankers I'll see while drifting the Bog. Almost as many as there are boats. And man there's alot of boats on the weekends. eek One of these seasons I won't be surprised to see one of those traffic regulator lights you see on the I-5 on-ramps at the Bogey Hatchery launch.

Well back to the Lil' Chief.

Glad to see things are looking up on the Bogey, I am headed there tomorrow afternoon to float it on Tuesday and looking forward to it.

Thanks for this post, I was hoping to get an update.

Calawah is stuffed with retarded hatchery fish. Hooked six chromers in the tailout of the Aquarium Pool, not a single one took an inch of line!!

Rains today blew the Bogey ... doubt it will clear by tomorrow and there's lots of rain forecast tomorrw night and Tuesday.

GZ ... if you're on the the 30 lb. test club down there, odds are a 6-8 lb. fish isn't gonna take much line in sub 40 degree water wink wink

GZ,
You might want to look into one of those newer light action rods that I see everybody using these days. I hear Vedder highly recommends them for jig/float fishing like all you guys are using up there on the 'wah-wah' umbrella
Yours truly. wink

Mooch,

What did you think of the old man at the end of the tailout of the hatchery hole on friday afternoon just nailing them almost every cast. I couldnt believe it, I saw that you and your partner lost a good number of fish, must of been nice to be the only boat on that side. I had one of those days that you question if you even know how to fish, horrible day. But then again it was better than being in Spokane sitting in class. I was with the very large Alaskan malmute on the other side from you.

Hey Matt,

Ya we had some fun CNRing laugh that day. Should'a hollered howdy. I might forget a face but I'll never forget a dog. I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya next time.

I think I lost count at 8 for that guy. I'm surprised you didn't get any of that action. Seemed like most everyone else walked out with a fish he had hooked though. What killed me was watching him cast at his feet and feed down into the rocks in front of him while everyone else who was watching continued to cast to the far side bank. He was putting on a free clinic and no one was paying any attention to how he was fishing only to what he was catching. Typical.

I was trying to hook a friend up with his first steelhead that day. We lost way too many to admit before we finally hooked up with a very nice fish. We sure had a great day, hope you did too.

The other ol' guy.

Mooch,

Give me a holler if your heading out this way again, maybe we could go to a smaller coastal river or something. I will be around until the 4th of next month,(Sequim) let me know. Like I said before, it was one of those terrible days for me and my buddy, I lost way to much gear that day, I even fished at my feet. But you know how it go's "mama said there would be days like this". Just have to get em another day.

mama got that right! Saturday was that way for us, we couldn't buy a bite. Saw some nice ones caught though.
It would be great to hook up over the break. I'll be farm sitting though so I won't be roaming too far afield. If you're interested in busting some brush for some nates check with me after Xmas. You oughta be tired of catching all those brats by then. wink

BB, does it have to be Saturday? Would Sunday be okay with you?

I have a social function Friday night which may put a long trip to the OP (or any activity that requires concentration) out of the question for Saturday. But I had planned to do something fishy on Sunday.

I'll be free this Thursday, also, if anyone is interested in sharing a drive out that way.

I'm thinking about trying out the Bogey/Calawah on the 29th & 30th. What are my chances of getting some hatchery fish? Will the run be over by then?
