Go to Westport and follow the other 50,000 people to the beaches just to the South of town.

The dates were only tentative!! They have to test the water if you know what I mean. That is supposed to be today or tomorrow and then they post it on the WDFW website. Make sure they call it a GO before you do!! http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/do/newreal/nov1803a.htm

Tests are OK, the dig is on and I'd say the best digging will be at Kalaloch, which has only been open once in the last two years. If that's too far, I'd go to the Mockrocks region. I dug last time it was open at Pacific Beach, which is part of the Mockrocks stretch, and it was a slam dunk.

I would suggest Ocean Shores area. Growing up we use to dig far North but the last few years have dug here and have had great success.

Best of Luck.

We are having a family and friends get to gether at Tokeland - about 15 people in all. Any advise for good digging areas around there? Any recommended resturants in the area?

We plan to buy about 20 crabs if we can find a local fisherman who will make us a good deal.

I don't know about all you other fellow Razor junkies, but the last few times I went out I struggled to get my limit from westport to ocean shores to copalis it sure isn't as easy as it used to be. Less clams more people? what

I'm sure it doesn't help when there is literally 10,000 people walking around on top of them. cry

I agree mini. as a kid I remember walking the beach watching them squirt everywhere.... I rarely see a show like that anymore.... mostly just a dimple in the sand. Too many people.

Elkrun Mini:

Yeah, I remember many days when you could see dozens of the doughnut shapes shows up in the dry sand; when in no one used a damn piece of sheet metal to dig a calm and when you could get your limit of 36, no problem. I remember when commercial diggers would drag long bags behind themselves and dig God know how many clams in a tide.

Back in the 50’s my family camped at Copalis, in a tent. All four of us would dig our limits on the morning tide, cleaned clams all morning and then help my mom can them. Then in the afternoon we might go back and dig our “second limit”. I’m not proud of this but that was what we and many others did. Maybe we were part of the problem?

Just a little incentive for all you diggers!

I wanna see some pix with more clams than we have on this table:

There's 720 of them critters on the fillet table there!

Looks like some BIG clams on that table! Nice!
Was that this year Bob?

I heard they upped the limit for you guys up there. Like 60 clams or something like that...

That was 95 or 96 as I recall. The limit was 60 for many years, dropped to 45 in 2001 and then was upped back to 60 this year for some reason.

While I'll usually take my 60, I was happy to see it at 45 because many epeople get really tired of cleaning at a point and I'm sure a number went to waste ...

Just means fewer days I gott dig for our winter stash though!

My wife's uncles go up to anchorage every year and stock up on razors. They've been asking me to go with'em... looks like I'm just gonna have to this year.

After seeing that feast it hardly seems worth the hastle for 15 clams.

We rarely dig here anymore ...

Although I took Fishgal a couple of years ago so she could do it once at night with the laterns. She'd never done it that way before and it was a neat experience for her to see the hundreds of fireflies at Kalaloch.

I was just thinking ... if you want to see how easy it can be up north, here's a vid:

http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com/movies/biglqclam.mpg

Got to watch the whole thing ... this was the first time I went digging with Fishgal's parents. After he watched the way I dug them with the custom oversized guns we had built, he wanted to try one. Problem is, he didn't know you have to close the air hole ...

whiff laugh

we got a good laugh!! rofl

I dont know Bob, doesn't look like much sport in that brand of clamming...

No waves crashing over your head, numb fingers and toes, bumping into thousands of people, burned by the lantern, Tap, tap, tap, tap, crunch!

Since I gave misleading advice on an area that is closed on must apologize and state that it shows that I am not digging this go around. Neverless if this area does open up again it is a nice easy place to dig.

Regards.

DV,

Any of the beach accesses around Grayland will provide good clamming. See you there. I'll be the guy with the shovel.

Is your group staying at the historic Tokeland Hotel? If not, check it out. They let you wander around the whole place. Also great dinners, I hear.

The first nite of digging is Sunday. THAT's not very convienient!

SQ: Thanks for the info. No we will be at the Trade Winds. But will check out the Hotel for another time.

We will be the group with a grumpy old fart and gray beard, a crying three year old, two 25 years old moms who don't want to get wet ot tear a nail and a good natured grandma. I suspect that amongst the 15 of us about three limits will be dug.

SC AKA DV, friends tell me the digging down by Tokeland was skinny last time and the best clam populations on the Twin Harbors beaches are north of Grayland.
