i was reading this website, although i think its good they are doing this the first thing that crossed my mind was that it was giving sportsfisherman a bad image, anyone else feel that way ? i`m going to call them and ask them what percentage of the gear they recover is from sportsman and i would bet money that it`s a real low percentage. they make it sound like it`s a problem that was created equaly by the sports and commercial fisherman and thats bull****.

I can think of at least one snag in my favorite fishing hole that has quite a bit of my gear in it...

If I fill out the form do you think they will remove it for me???


To answer your question when you read thru the types of gear it pretty much screams commercial fishing... The only recreational stuff would be the crab and shrimp pots.

Honestly now, how many people would actually fill out a report to remove an abandoned crab or shrimp pot...

I do think that it is great what they are doing... It needs to be done...

The vast majority of the underwater debris is made up of ghost nets...commercial fishing nets abandoned. The no fault approach flies in the face of what some want which is to hold the commercial fishermen accountable for littering the bottom with these perpetual killing machines. There are several efforts underway to push for identification of the gear while in use so when it is discarded to kill unattended the violators can be held accountable. No fault my butt.

Once again it is the nets....nets ...nets....They rape the resource and don't discriminate...they kill everything in their path. When abandoned on the bottom they continue to kill and do not rot away.

you and i know that. why dont you tell abunch of people you know that dont fish about that website and see if they think the same thing, i realy doubt that 100 percent of them would think its a problem caused mainly by the commercial fisherman because there are alot of people who dont have a clue as to the types of gear used by sport or commercial fisherman.
