Is the 1141 too light to be considered for an all around steelhead rod?

I think its a little on the light side to be an all around rod. When you say all around, I am guessing that you are speaking of a Boat as well as Bank rod? A big and small rivers, float and drift fishing rod?
Big kings could give you problems with an 1141 if you need to get um under control, because this rod fishes best with light line. I have a variety of rods for different situations and can choose as conditions indicate.
It (1141) would make an excellent summer run Steelhead rod, or a light silver or Pink Salmon rod. I would recommend the 1143 as more suited for all around use. My $.o2

I agree with JLH if you are looking for an all around rod the 1143 would work better.

1141 is too light to be an all around rod. It's hard to find one rod that can do it all. I'd go for 2, an 1143 casting and an 1173 spinning.

a 1141 is a great rod when used properly. It is rated for 4-8 lb line. I run 8 lb mainline, with 6-8 lb leaders. It is great for low water fishing when fish are leader shy. ex: summer, and low winter flows feb and march. I would not classify is as an all around rod, but more of a specialty rod. Hook size should be nothing bigger than a size 2 max, because you can't set a bigger hook. I mainly use size 4. Great for boondogging, and sidedrifting ( I think it was originally designed for fishing from boats on the Cow). The biggest fish I have landed on a 1141 was a 20 lb hactchery Steelie buck. I also fish a 1143 rod, which is the perfect all around rod. 6-12 lb test, I have caught everything from steelhead to 35lb kings on mine. It has plenty of backbone, just make sure you match it with a quality reel. Both of these rods are custom Rainshadow rods made by myself, and my uncle. my .02 later Elkman Ryan

I figured the 1141 was going to be more of a specialty rod,and I was right. I have a Rainshadow 1143 I built two summers ago,and its my favorite rod. I've landed kings to 26lbs on it and use it all the time for silvers. I may build an 1141 anyways.
