When stringing a plastic worm on a hook, what end of the worm is up or down? thanks Dustin

Usually most rig with the tail section nearest the hook when finished ... that means you'd start at the tail

depending on the worm i like to use the smaller end down or the flared end down hanging about 3/4 to 1" past the hook. I know guys who use it either way and catch fish, anyways hope this helps..

I'm sure this has been asked and answered....would a regular night crawler work in that application? just curious...

I've seen people use nightcrawlers with drift gear, so I imagine they would work under a float like most use the pink worm...I would want more color myself though.

Goinfishin, Nightcrawlers work better than most people think. Try one around an area that's getting fished hard and everyone is fishing eggs and shrimp.

A nice wiggly crawler works great on summer runs. They should work on winters as well.

I grew up fishing worms for stealhead in the summer. I dont know how many times I would be out fishing for trout wading the green when I was a kid with about a inch of night crawler freedifting with the current in small holes that a steelhead would take it. I caught one once about 3 feet from my feet in about 8 inches of water. I was letting it out and saw a big flash and splash fish on. I have often thought about coloring a real night crawler and seeing how it would do. They sell stuff that will make them green and glow that you add to the dirt and weight a couple of days for them to digest the stuff. People die prawns and eggs dont see why you couldnt die a worm. They get soft pretty quick when their dead so maybe brine them like a herring. Anyone ever attempt it.

seen a guy catch 2 steelies at Blue Creek 2 years ago in December. He was hanging a crawler about 12" below a yellow regular bobber. There were about 100 guys in a line fishing regular steelie gear- corkies, eggs, shrimp...

It was pretty slow, this guy snagged into a couple people and I think he was gettin dissed and dirty looks and stuff. Then all of a sudden bang bang within a few minutes...then he was outta there.

The rig looked a like a bass or crappie set-up from eastern washington. Needless to say I was astounded. Yet to try it though

I remember pounding the Green 30 years ago. It was bank to bank fishermen and we had all been throwing everything we had at the fish all morning -- except worms. A guy showed up about 11:00, put a night crawler on a hook with no weight, threw it out and let it swirl around. First cast, first fish. Second cast, second fish. He packed them up the bank and went home...while we all stood and just watched. These were the only fish caught that morning.

Night crawler are good steelhead bait, as far as pinkies, i like em rigged upside down a lil better, but fish em both ways when under a float, but when using them on drift gear, always tail down, just my .02 cents! tight lines, Chris

I am learning to use them both more. Last week I caught a 35" hatchery male using a jig and crawler, but I had also casted pinks and crawlers through the drift about 50 times with no luck, so I am not sure what triggered the strike. He was the only fish I saw hooked that day. Must have landed on his head. Just keep them in the water.

Try pink ones (3.5" - 4") with a pink or cerise jig head under a float. It is a secret weapon to bust out after everyone has pounded a hole with drift gear. I love watching a bobber go down, but damn it sucks to watch it just bob. These two were taken on back to back casts after the other guys had given up on this hole.
