1/0 or 2/0 and corky size depends on river conditions and choice of bait or the amount of floatation u want to add to it.

Clear water conditions.....long leader, #4 hook, #12 corkie.

Dirty water conditions........shorter leader, #2 hook and a #10 corikie.

Experiment and see what you like but that is a decent starting place.

Somtimes like like to go with a double #12 in darker water.

When using rag & sandshrimp I'll run 1/0.
When using corkie & egg's I'll run double #4s with a size 12 corkie.Just remember that if you can not slide the corkie between the point of the hook and the shank you are most likely using to big of a corkie for your hook resulting in less hooked and landed fish.Water conditions will dictate what size corkie to use adjust hook size accordingly.Good luck,

Out of the DB or off the bank with bait, 1/0 or 2/0 and corkie to match conditions. Out of sled on the cowlitz with the rest of the flossers, double #4's.....what else!

rwgav8,

Walkindadog has it right, but i don't fish in a sled on large flat lander rivers much sorry! We have larger fish on this peninsula and more than once have i had the beast turn around take one snarl at me and straighten a small hook, even 1/0 and 2/0, so now now before we start throwin snagger remarks, lets rethink about where u fish the majority of ur trips and where i fish all the time. Beware, OlyPen has larger brutes and is the Steelhead capitol of the world and they love to eat gear, so with that, i invite u to a day of fishing on the Peninsula and u use ur 4's or whatever and i'll use my 1/0 or 2/0 hooks. Oh and by the way i run two 2/0's on drift rigs lol! Tight lines Chris

Fair enough GFB. You are correct, I havent had the chance to fish the famed rivers of the OP, the Hump is the closest Ive come. I use #2 hooks generaly, even when on the bank. The only time I ever use a 2/0 is for Kings but I mostly use 1/0. If i ever do get the chance to fish any of the OP rivers, Im sure Ill be a stubborn ******* and still use a #2, but I will remember your advice and have some #1 and 1/0 as backup.

Thanx Spartan, just clean laugh, no need for any arguements, were all adults here i hope! As for rwgav8, i was serious about u comin fishin sometime, i'm friendly and do fish like u do, just in the summer or low clear water, but usually for peninsula i'm runnin 1/0 or 2/0 from September till the first sign of springers, then i'll do some major adjusting dependin on conditions of spring time flows!

Fishin buddy, one of my favorite rivers is right there in your back yard. My son's Godfather lives there in Sequim in Sunland so it is a greta excuse to get over there and walk that swift straight river.

Tight lines!

I have gotten ywo out of a huge mud puddle after some high water at the "one down the road". Saw their dorsals as we we driving by. The river was mud so we fished the puddle! Now that was some interesting stuff!

rwgav8, whenever is fine with me! An uncle of mine has a tight work schedule, but he drives all the way up from Portland when he gets off work at like 6 or 7 on a saturday night, then we drive all the way to Forks that night, antifreeze ourselves up real good when we get there and fish all night and day. Come day time we usually drink Rockstars by the case lol and he drops me off and drives home. NO SLEEP! Now that is Steelheadin dedication at its finest lol! Come on, let the journey begin lol!
