Has anyone ever used toothpaste to clean your lures? If so what kind?

Have used tooth paste for years to clean my spoons and spinner blades. Used whatever brand that is in the house. Just rub a dab on the surface of the spoon and rinse.

Plus it doesn't smell as bad as Brasso or the other specialist metal polishes.

Toothpaste also works great for washing your hands to remove stubborn fish smell that lingers after a long fishing trip. After you gut salmon for a week, your hands stink, no matter what kind of soap you use.

The absolute best thing is Flitz copper and brass cleaner. Any toothpaste will work, but no comparison to Flitz.

I liked to use toothpaste to when fishing for kings in the salt. I'd wash my hands with the paste before handling the bait - in a theory that the toothpaste would mask my human scent.

Have no idea if it made a difference or not, as I seem to do find with or without using toothpaste on my hands.

But hey, if you think it works for you, than by all means, keep using it! I love all those silly superstitions and rituals us fisherman do! Makes the sport fun!

No Bananas! smile

Speaking of toothpaste, Has anyone ever heard of using Desatin (the butt wax), for scent or scent coverup?
