Has anyone tried two jigs on the same float? I'm not a float and jig fisherman, hence the question. It seems (without knowing) that there is a possibility of using a second jig on a dropper, say a foot and a half or so above the bottom jig. Seems like a guy could present a couple of different colors/patterns? Any chance, or just plain ridiculous?

I can't think of a situation where I would consider two jigs an advantage except rockfish or perch, etc.

Casting two weighted jigs under a float could be tough; you would get sort of a "double-pendulum" effect and tangles would be frequent.

Good point....but what if the top one was unweighted? Would that let it swing away from the main line?

I guess it would work as long as the top jig was lighter than the bottom. Maybe a fly rather than a jig on top. Now I'll have to fool around with that.

Iron Head: It has been done. Years ago a friend hooked two steelhead on flies when using a dropper. He landed them both.

I have in my tackle bag a dozen flies tied on 1/0 hooks (w/ bucktail to make them float upward) and other hair. Mostly skunk pattern.

Planned on using them 12" above jig on 8" leader.

Have not tried it on the river yet..

I run a dropper fly off a jig alot when its cold. Usually a size 6 or 8 black stone or a size 8 green caddis tipped with a waxie. I run lighter line than the mainline, so it will break off if snagged up. It's just hanging 8-10 inches off the jig, tumbling around in the water like a bug that's been kicked off the bottom. I don't catch very many fish on the dropper.

I do kind of the same thing as hawk does, just use a roe bag on the top and two waxies on a hook on the bottom to see what is working the best. Although it can get to be a big problem when casting cause the waxies will want to tangle up the rest of your rig. Don't do this all the time but when it is time to expierment anything goes. Say Hawk I'm gonna call you this weekend to figure out doing some fishing the spring. Just got back from Michigan it was so so, but found some killer float fishing water on the PM.

I used to fish two shad darts (same as jigs) for hickory shad on the east coast and also two jigs under a bobber for crappie. We regularly had two crappie on at a time.

I have not tried this on steehead, but I'm sure it will work great when properly presented. I have used this on rockfish and trout and its worked just fine and I've even had one fish take both hooks at once several times. Though it would be nice to be able to fish two jigs or a fly and a jig for steelhead without any problems, but that doesn't seem to be the case very often when using two jigs. I too think that the fly on the dropper with a jig below would be the most productive way to fish this rig. I fish floats 50% of my time on the river and will give this a shot next time I'm out. I think I will fish the dropper with between two and four inches of leader off a small three way. I think that anymore than maybe six inches is too much excess line and just creates more tangles. I think that when fishing a dropper set-up like that, that a lighter, stiffer line should be used on the dropper, but correct me if I'm wrong please.

What about using an aero-fly off the dropper or just under a float by itself with some shot on the line. Any thoughts on this anyone?

Hey Downtime, give us the story that goes with that fish it is a nice looking fish, is that a rainbow?

Last year I ran a wooly bugger type of fly (weighted) off of my jig a few times. I gave up after losing several of those set ups. But I think it should work good. I have seen plenty of fly fisherman use more than one fly and they catch fish? So why not for steelhead?
