Anyone have any problems with running a jet sled in salt. I know you have to flush them but is that good enough ? Are there other
problems ?

I put mine in the salt much more often than I ever thought in the year I have had mine (20' North River). In addition to flushing out the jet after each use , I also wash mine when I get home. Wax it frequently and make sure you have zincs that are in good condition.

Make sure to WASH YOUR TRAILER! I pretty much ruined my dual axel tricker trailer. I rinsed it very well with a pressure washer but all the metal parts rusted and need to be replaced. Salt away works great if applied properly.

I have run an outboard jet in the salt for a few years now, no problems mechanically. It doesn't like rough water or a bunch of seaweed floating around, not too fun to make long runs in. Sometimes I launch at Everett and run to the outer bar at Posession but I don't usually plan to go much farther than that. Someone told me that the saltwater will wear down the leading edges of my impeller but I don't believe it, sucking up rocks and sand occasionally, the saltwater means nothing!! If you have a jet, then don't be afraid to fish the salt, that's what I think.

Salt is the most corrosive natural substance on earth. It depends how much work you are willing to go through each time you take it out and how long you expect to keep it.

My feeling is that a boat must be set up with items manufactured for salt water.

I don't know if it is the MOST corrosive, but seawater, especially hot seawater, is bad news for metals, "stainless" included. It's not called "stainproof" after all. Having said that, there are less corrosion-prone and more corrosion-prone stainless steels. "316" is highly corrosion-resistant, but spendy. "15-5" is used for propellers, and maybe impellers. Try to find out what alloy of your impeller is made from.

I think your biggest challenge would be comfort, what with the almost ever-present 1'-2' seas and exposed conditions. If your hull is close to flat, it's like smacking each wave with a great big spatula. It's OK for a little while, but after 1/2 an hour probably gets pretty nerve-wracking. I know it sounds nerve-wracking when a sled goes by me on the saltwater smile Smack, smack, smack.

Regards.
