I got a very bright, big, hatchery hen yesterday. Meat is in the fridge.
After i had it in the net and she was bleeding i noticed she had a open wound from a seal. The teeth marks on the side were healed but the wound in the stomach was open and discolored. I would have released it had i seen it in the water. I feel very bad for having killed it. My question is would you eat a fish that obvioulsy has an infection?

I think if you cut out the bad discolored flesh, then the rest of the meat should be ok.

Don't feel bad about killing that hatchery hen. That's what she was produced for.... your harvest opportunity! She would have made no meaningful contribution to producing more steelhead in the future. As for the meat, enjoy. It will eat just fine and is perfectly safe if you cut around the diseased portion. Just wouldn't consume it as sashimi or sushi.
