We went up for 3 days 2 weeks ago and the fishing was extremely slow (1 small 3lb fish caught between 6 experienced steelheaders over 3 days). During the time we were there we heard of less than 10 fish being caught in the entire system. Reports several days before we left indicated there were "fish throughout the system". Expect to plunk down more than $100 US in licenses for a weekend of fishing if you don't already have a yearly BC license and steelhead punchcard. Don't forget to take some wool. Good luck...you will need it!

For the most part, the fishing on the Vedder has been pretty spotty. There have been some fleurys of activity but for the most part, pretty slim.

I am glad you mentioned the punch card. I have an annual license. I got it for kings and reds and didn't get the steelhead punch card which is $60 or $70 dollars. I had forgotten all baout it! It is faster to go up there than Forks.

Mr. Vedder,
I meant to ask how you are doing as well but I forgot laugh
I didn't know Duvall was big enough to have a West or East side confused

STILHEAD: Thanks for your concern. As to how long it takes to get to the Vedder, I figure about three hours form my home in W. Duvall. That is when travelling at 4:00 A.M. Not sure where you live, so can't answer which is closer, the Vedder or Forks.

My most current reports on the Vedder were pretty decent last week a bit, i.e. one or two fish per man per day for good rods, slower this weekend.

this season on the vedder has been much better than the last couple of years. I have buddies catching fish every time out. Good days are 4-5 fish and overall it's been steady fishing. There has been some good days recently. Water is kinda low right now , but with rain this week it should all improve. Fish below "Tamihi" if you are looking for fresh fish, the top end of the river should be filling up with wild fish and some will be getting quite dark.

Fished the Vedder/Chill for an hour Sunday evening and all day Monday with two fly guys from work, I fished floats.

Sunday: Strolled into town at the end of the day. Purchased are steelhead stamps for $55 Canadian (ouch), alot more if you haven't already bought a Canadian fishing license.

We only had about 1.5 hours of light left so we picked a spot with easy bank access below the Vedd crossing. First 10 minutes on the river and I hooked into a nice 9 pound chrome hatch hen that I released. Fly guys zero.

Monday:

Started about 7:30 in the morning, and hit it hard trying several spots, finally one of my fly buddies hooked about a 10-12# hatch buck, and played it for a while and it spit the hook. Then I went to the top of the hole and hit a nice 14-16 # wild hen that was bright as foil, fish tailed in the shallows, photographed (not a crime in B.C. yet rolleyes ) and released unharmed.

So three fish hooked and 3 pitchers of Chilliwack Blonde downed! hello Made for a great trip.

I am headed up there Thursday for the weekend. I was really tossed between fishing the Vedder or the Bogey this weekend. Reports I have heard have been good for the Vedder and it looks like a friend will take us out on the Fraser for some Sturgeon. I guess the Sturgeon trip tips the scales for Canada.

I sure like these kinds of dilemnas; where to fish?
