As far as I'm concerned guiding without a license is poaching and it is not fair to all the legal guides out there that are trying to make an honest living. I never go out with a guide until I know that they are legit.

I used to know of a guy that called himself a guide that blatently violated the law. I made efforts to bring his actions to light, but it seemed that no one really cared. I haven't seen him around on any of the boards lately so maybe he got busted too!

I don't have a problem with not confronting an entire crowd, and while I will tell some folks what I think about their fishing habits, and in other cases will flat run them off, I don't take others to task for not doing so.

I suspect that the tribal officer was not writing tickets to the White guys. I know there were a number of WDFW officers, some posing as fisherman, patrolling almost constantly, and staying busy writing tickets.

FYI.....the summer chum are not endangered on that river and before anyone jumps my case on this, I know the species is endangered. I'm only saying there is no shortage of chums on that river. That does not provide reason to mistreat them in any way, however. I avoid them and their redds as much as I possibly can.

Bottom line...in my opinion, that river is a lousy place for a true sportsman to bother fishing.

Thanks, Dave. Your insight/input are always welcomed. beer
