Remember that the escapement goal for the the Green and most other Puget Sound Rivers was not established until 1984.

So-- The wild steelhead escapement has been at goal or nearly at the goal 19 out of 26 years.

Seriously the item that should catch folk's attention is that escapements in the 2,500 range during the mid-1990s are producing run sizes of less than 2,000.

Believe that last week there was some ongoing predation studies on the Cedar - trout caught and their stomachs pumped - nasty job but someone must do it. Maybe that is what you saw.

I would be happy to answer questions about this program. As most of you are aware the return of hatchery fish on the green has been .4 of a percent for some time. Many simular programs on other rivers have seen 4 to 8 percent return, we hope to see something better than .4 of a percent. This progam is a five year program to see if a river of origin strain of fish will return better. This is the third year of the program. It is an effort that was put together by the South King County TU chapter with the state and the tribe. The tribe is funding it at $6,000 per year. The goal is to produce and release 33,000 smolt each year.
