I'm getting the run-around via telephone and can't get in to a dermatologist until May so here's my ?. I've got a lump under my chin that doubled in size overnight. No redness or anything, just a lump that keeps growing. Any guesses..... It's directly under my chin on the left hand side. I'm going to the walk-in clinic after work..... Little help?????? Oh yeah, tight lines....

Something like that happened to me once. It wound up looking like a baseball. Turned out to be a blockage in a saliva gland. Did not hurt but looked pretty bad. I doubt a dermitologist is who you really need to see.

Just learn to take your lumps. I bet it doesn't stop you from fishing. Have you had the mumps? Could be that if you haven't.

My dad had something of the sorts last summer. Get to the doctor ASAP. It turned out that my dads was a benign growth and he had it removed the same day he saw the Doc. Don't take any chances and get to the Doctor!

You know something.... you might have G.A.S.H ( a powerfull mix of gonorrhea, aids, syphilis and herpies ) Its my understanding that affected persons are put on a strict diet of pizza and pancakes... not because it makes them feel better but its the only things they can slide under your door.

Plus if you have all that who cares how you look. Eat all you want.
I wouldn't think a tumor would appear over night. Most likely it is some sort of infection.

Could even be a spider bite. I was bitten by a wolf spider and my leg swelled up like a baseball. At least it wasn't by one crawling around on my face while I'm sleeping though. I wouldn't sleep too well anymore thinking about that.

FCTS- I had a similar swelling a while back, and I just let it be. It went away in a day or so. the docs may prescribe amoxicillin or something similar.

It is probably lymphnodal in nature. A reaction to some sort of virus or something.

I'd suggest that you go fishing immeadiately for the fresh air.

So which is your favorite Parker?

Turn your head and cough OR Bend over and put your elbows on the table, you may feel a little discomfort?

Bag the Derm guy, Cuttie. Just get in to see your regular MD.... ASAP. If he needs a second opinion, my guess would be he would send you to an ENT specialist for a biopsy or ultrasound or other diagnostic imaging.

You look like an otherwise young healthy fellow... I would postulate an enlarged lymph node or submandibular salivary gland (as others have already suggested). Worst case scenarios.... HMMM... lymphoma or salivary gland tumor. Not something to mess around with.

Make your appointment before your next fishing trip.... SERIOUSLY.

It sound like you have sialadenitis - plugged saliva gland. A walk in clinic should be able to confirm the diagnosis. If this is what it is they will probably recommend fluids, sour lemon drops, warm compresses and possibly antibiotics.

Good Luck.

Don't trust anything you learn over the internet unless it's about fish.

Well, I did like the fishing advice as that has always seemed to work in the past. HOwever, I went to the doc and he was very thorough. I actually mentioned possible salivary gland inflamation and he said that that was the first place he felt but it's far too close to my chin and it was right underneath the epidermus, not deep....(apparantely the salivary glands are farther back). According to him it is an infection and I walked away with some antibiotics and a much needed smile. Now I can go fishing after work tomorrow.......
Much appreciated advice, especially from you, fishinphysician.... Thanks
Cuttie

Good advice Doc, In 2000 I found a lump on the side of my neck and went in, they feared the worst, Lymphomo, within 4 days I was on the table and they removed it. Luckily it was just a benine growth and I was fine, but do not mess around, lymphomo moves quickly and will take you down.
peace
