Iwas wondering how this word is pronounced. Is it triploids-as in triangle, or is it triploids-as in triple? I have frequently heard it pronounced both ways. I have always called them triploids, as in tri-angle.

Thanks for your advice!

3 chromosomes... SUPPOSEDLY can't breed but any honest Troutlodge employee will tell you otherwise.

well, if it could breed it's not much different from any other rainbow. that's supposedly the reason they grow so fast, because they don't put any energy into producing eggs/milt

It's trip-loid as in , "How was your trip, Lloyd?"

Most critters (including you and I) are diploid as in, "The water's fine... care to take a dip, Lloyd?"

what good is a fish that is scientifically bred for growing real big, stocked in a "put and take" lake and then all bonked before they can ever grow an inch.

Given that this is fourth year of this program we would expect to see a five or six year old 20lb "tip loyd" trout come out of one of our western Washington waters. Problem is we don' t even see a 5lb three year old. These fish do not appear to be providing the benefit we thought they would. We may be better off by stocking western Washington waters with large diploid trout instead. My friends in E. Washington report similar results from this program. R. Woods may be the exception.

fishcounter,
You might suggest to the powers that be that the fish be planted in the fall just after the lakes close for the year. That would allow them to spread out across the lake and grow a little over the winter before the masses slay'em.

Don’t know, if they are triploids or not, but we got some really super trout this week in one of the quality lakes. They were very pretty, extremely hard fighters and about 20 inches in length. We have fished those lakes for years, but have never caught so many really hard fighting, big trout. If those are triploids, keep it up. If not, whatever they are doing is working just fine.
