Got an email from the WDFW. We didn't meet our quota in marine areas 8 & 9. They will reopen on May 14th from 5am to 9pm. This is a one day opener to fill the remaining quota. This will be on a Friday. If it were on a weekend day the quota would go over.

Thanks for the update. I had been wondering if they might do a brief opener as the wind really kept lots of folks off the water last Friday and the checker at the ramp on Saturday said take had been low.

Hi

Im a first time shrimper. Ive searched the forums for tips and it has been very valueable but the thing is even with all the tips about shrimping I havent been able to find any posts that provide any good locations to shrimp.

I was wondering if anyone could share some of their shrimping spots and experience for area 9( possesion point).

thanks

HaloShrimper

Keep searching the archives. I learned a lot doing that over the past couple years. For example, in April 2003 I posted:

"I went north of Edmonds (yes, a couple miles past the cluster of pots right north of the Area 10 line). I set one pot at 230' and one at 250' at about 7:30 am and didn't make it back out until about 1:30 pm. Our first pull had a limit between the two pots."

AuntyM posted good advice:

"As far as where you're shrimping? Get a detailed chart on the depth and GPS coordinates, And you should be able to avoid ledges and drop offs. I use the online charts available at Maptech since my GPS doesn't have all bells and whistles. I print them out and take them with me."

In other words, keep reading, and once you have questions about what you've read, post a question - people seem to be happy to clarify what they've written previously.
