Since there have been a few complaints lately, here is a thread for you to post fishing reports of any kind.

Within the next couple days I'll head out to a local lake and also try for some SRCs in the South Sound. I'll post a report when I get back.

Any reports to share?

Went bank fishing yesterday eve in the howlin' wind for about an hour and a half.

Hooked three steelies, landed one buck of about five pounds before all the coho smolt from the hatchery proceeded to clean me out of shrimpies.

No jerries in the hole I fished, had been a few floppin' a day or two earlier.

I floated the Yakima River in the Canyon on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and the Caddis Hatch was just starting to come on thick. Very few trout rising to them so I switched to nymphs and did very well. I was going to the Wind River this weekend to fish for Springers on the Columbia, but my buddy with the boat received some damage from yesterday's windstorm so can't make it. Plan B then is back to the Yakima this Saturday to float. I am thinking it will be very good with the warm weather coming on and more Caddis hatching.

Fished a lake in the foothills Monday and Tuesday.

Monday was too bloody hot and sunny to make for good fishing in the shallow waters of the lake.

Yesterday I was just getting dialed into the trout as the Wind came....and boy did it come. A good freind of mine and I sat on the opposite end of the launch for a good 3 hours and watched as 2 foot breakers. white caps, swells etc. swept across this small little lake. Finally as the wind calmed, we decided to make a break for launch and try to get a little fishing in. I anchored up in my Fat Cat and tried to wind drift a bloodworm only to be pelted in the face with waves and such breaking over my tube.

We called it a day and went home.

Went floating Tuesday, got off the river about 4:00PM started home and there were trees all over the place. It took two and half hours to get home , it only takes a hour on normal day. Wasn't much wind up there.
Great day on the river blue skys, rain, blue skys, rain, blue skys you get the picture.

I took three families worth of kids to American Lake on Sunday to fish off my Grandmother's dock. Six rods for ages nine to four managed 20+ trout (I stopped counting) and one smallmouth. Who knows how many we lost or released. I only saw two boats fishing all morning. I would describe it as "red hot" and there is little or no pressure. I went over there for dinner last night and noticed the lake was totally flat, there wasn't a single boat and the fish were jumping everywhere.
Obviously this is not a zipper at all but anyone with a boat and some kids could do worse.

My dad went out on the Columbia yesterday with a buddy at our Stella area. Hooked a native released it sucsefully (sp?) and his buddy got a nice big keeper right up to the boat where the sea lion took it and charged out to the main channel spooling poor Tom and snapping his line at the reel. Good thing I always leave my pole in the boat he fished with it the rest of the day. Only 2 more take downs the rest of the day.

B-Run - did you get seasick? Haven't fished for crappie since I was in high school; brings back some great memories--the fish fries afterwards, as well.

Mountain view res on Idaho/ Nevada boarder from noon till dark yesterday. Float tube fishing. Between two of us we caught at least 50 rainbows from 14-18 inches. Kept two, and BBQ them at the truck at 5:00, then out for the evening bite. Sparkle green leech was king for the day, with black wolly bugger coming in a close second. Oh, yea- I did not get sea sick

Went to FIVE lakes over the weekend....gotta be a family record! Caught trout in all 5. Lake Ki, Riley, Heart Lake, Lake Erie and Deer Lake. Somehow managed to miss the real heavy crowds.

Deer Lake (Island county) was best for me. #10 olive Woolly Bugger was best.

Kind of fun to explore new waters!!

On Riley Lake I saw people trolling off their DOCK....I'm serious....they detached their large 10' by 10' floating dock (I think it was that big) and attached an electric trolling motor to it, and trolled around and caught fish!! Much more room that some little boat!

What will they think of next. "Boats, we don't need no stinkin' boats....we got a dock!"

Fished Rattlesnake Lake in my float tube Thursday afternoon for a couple hours and had five good trout on. Lost two that appeared to be triploids or carryovers, both chunky and jumpers, one just beyond reach. Got one trip 14 or 15 inches and two planters 10 or 11, let 'em all go. Basically just kicked around in the middle with a full-sink and an olive bugger.

Fished Kauai last thursday. Caught an ono and a mahi, but no marlin. Had fresh ono on the timeshare bbq that afternoon. Much better that way than in the local restaurants for $30/plate.

Cabo San Lucas on Thursday, April 29.

Went out with my friend, Joe, with whom my wife and I were visiting. Joe and I went out while our wives enjoyed the sun, poolside.

We trolled all day for striped marlin. Joe was first up and got one at about 10:40. It was a big one, estimated by the skipper to be in the 160 lb. range. It jumped 23 times and took 50 minutes to land. Released. What a beautiful fish! Hope the picutures turn out.

We worked over two other marlin after Joe landed his, but they were not hungry. The fishing is good for marlin. We saw no action from wahoo or dorado.

Back at work now, counting down the days until May 14, when a group of us are headed to Abaco Island, in the Bahamas, for a week to chase bonefish.

Tall Tails!

Tad: By comparison, our reports are a bit on the mundane side..

Since the steelhead fishing has ended, I had to go fish...somewhere this weekend. Did a quick bit of computer sleuthing and came up with...Toad Lake - Whatcom County

Nice little pond, big enough for non-motorized DB's (electric motors), but I fished the public dock. Fishing was slow, caught only one little planter rainbow (7"?). Did see quite a few caught by those in boats.

A lot of fun, but not near as exciting as the "big" fish. Still, spending a lazy afternoon drowning worms has its merits.

I was in Maui and asked the tour guide about fishing and snorkeling. He told me it depended on the captain wether he'd let me fish off the snorkeling boat. I decided to just go off on my own and ended up in a monstrous school of fish at the end(snorkeling). I was just about to give up and go in and ended up in the middle of them. Really cool. But what goes with big schools of fish?? Bigger things, sharks. Then, a huge thing came swimming towards me and I froze. But, it was a magnificent giant sea turtle. I swam with him and his friend for quite awhile until they ditched me. Really neat and I hope my underwater pics turn out. Next trip this month, I will try to find the nice captains and see if I can catch something. They are after the Ahi out there and I'd love to bring some home.

Fished the Potholes and surrounding lakes Fri, Sat and Sun. Fishing was slow . My 5 year old lieks to fish off the Mardon dock mostly to talk with everyone about fishing. In 4 trips I have yet to see any fish caught off the docks yet their web site is full of them. There was a Walleye tournament there this weekend. Interesting group of people. I have never seen more overweight ,sunburned people with a permanent beer in their hand as I did this weekend. Also never ever take a 5 year old and a 10 year old out in a 12' laker with an electric trolling motor when the walleye tournament is town. Because it seems the competition is more important than basic safety ,sportmanship or common sense even decency. I hope anyone that sees a small boat with kids in it or Old folks or folks in wheel chairs they slow down and crate no wake. It's the polite thing to do and what you would what done to you. I even doubt a rap in the mouth would teach those that are guilty anything.

I floated the Yakima again on Saturday. Real slow until 4pm when the Caddis flies started hitting the water. A lot of big fish coming up. Caught 4 over 16", lost one that was as big as a steelhead and another that ran me into my backing. Add to that sunshine, good friends, and sun, all in all a pretty good day.

I need to learn the Cowlitz. Can anyone tell me where I should launch the driftboat and take out for Springs and Steelhead this time of year?

Thanks!

Fished for Springers last monday the 26th Cathlamet Clifton Channel Not a bump in five hours.
Fished a local lake Friday with my wife. Wife limited for both of us in under two hours (I didn,t tell her the first strike I got shredded my fly so was dragging mostly a bare hook) She picked up a real nice carryover 2 pounder. Now that she has bragging rights it will not be hard to get her to go again. (am I a scheming little devil or what?)

Fished the Lewis today. Boated 11 springers and 3 summer steelhead. Busted my IMX 1141 on the hookset of a monster hen summer run. She spit the hook before we could land her. \:\(

It's a zoo on the Lewis now. Most boats were lucky to get a fish, let alone 2.
