Tonight there a meeting in Skidro Wooley about “King” fishing on the SKAGIT.
From what they said on the radio they want to open the section from Rockport to Cascade River. Is that over redds?

7:00pm at Senior Citizen Center

I just got back in town, just heard about it.

I report back after the meeting

Wouldn't that be a treat. Maybe they could open the N. Nutsack as well. Kendal Creek Hatchery has been exceeding its escapement by four fould for the last several years.

It was a question and answer meeting.

It sounds like next year there will be a “King” season above the Baker River.

And there was a lot of talk about Grandy Creek; The Director said it was going in. Not a Hatchery but Reining (sp) ponds.

There were only two guys that got out of hand. Not bad for 75 people talking about fishing.

Homer - Would that be for the summer kings or the fall fish?

There was a petition being circulated at the North of Falcon Meeting in Mill Creek concerning this proposed fishery. I think it was sponsored by the Wildcat Steelhead Club but I am not positive about that. The proposed fishery would be targeting marked summer chinook headed for the Cascade Hatchery. I think they were looking for a June and July fishery similar to the one on the Skykomish.

Beezer - great news - thanks for the breakdown. It's been great to see new river fishing oppurtunities in the N sound. Almost makes me think of moving back to Everett (yeah sure! )

Hey what is your guys take on why no springer hatcher smolt plants take place on most of the N Sound rivers? I hear the Skagit still has wild springers , but i don't hear anything else in general at all about springers in N Sound rivers? anyone have some insight(s)?

WDFW also releases spring chinook from the Clark Ck hatchery at Marblemount that have been returning surplus production for a few years now. If they're marked, might as well have a fishery on them in the section between Rockport and Marblemount. (Shudder - probably need an enforcement agent or fisheries observer on every other boat, unfortunately.)

Sincerely,

Salmo g.
