I've been throwing around the idea of buying an early 70's fiberglass 16-18' boat as a fixer-upper for fall estuary salmon fishing. Haven't singled one out but they are all over the place rotting in yards up and down the coast here. I just want the shell(hull) of the boat w/o engine and interior. I know I can get one cheap.

The problem is most, if not all, of the boats I see are on rusted out trailers. I won't skimp on trailers and would rather start with a new one for piece of mind.

My questions is do most of the present day trailer manufacturers offer trailers for older boats? (20-30 years old). And if they don't, are most modern trailers "adjustable" to fit the dimensions of older boats? Maybe some of you in the industry could point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

I would think any of the trailers of the correct size/weight should be able to be adusted for any given boat. Try asking some of the mfgs directly. Here are just a few:

I should think that any modern trailer would be able to hold old glass, unless it is something exotic like catamaran or trihull. Pretty much all of them are adjustable for deadrise, weight distribution, and roller/bunk placement.

(I know you said you want new, but in case you get sticker shock, I have a 10 YO Calkins galvanized for sale.)
