Tuna Man,

One of the things I do when floating solo is to take out at unlikely or less likely locations, in hopes of successfully stashing my raft and fishing gear where it won't be discovered, instead of leaving it at developed boat ramp sites. I use my mountain bike for turnaround and try to routes I can make it back to my gear within 30 minutes. So far, so good. I use to hitch hike for the turn around, but that's become less reliable anymore. Must be getting ugly in my middle age.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

I solo float a lot in my drift boat, just have to make a few adjustments and I wear my PFD all the time when I am alone. I tried out a pontoon boat by myself and I tell you what that is easier to fish out of alone then a drift boat because you can kick to control the boat while both arms are busy with a fish.

TM,
I think you're right....anywhere on the Sky a pickup vehicle is best...both problems I had were on the Sky... at Goldbar and Monroe. Never had a problem on the Stilly, probably for the reason Salmo described....using out of the way places. I'll be fly fishing and pontooning Goldbar to Sultan next month when the water gets low. Maybe we can hookup, which is the best turnaround solution there is!

Do it all the time, finally got sick of hitchhiking and bought a mountain bike but going solo is awesome, especially on a weekday when often times you own the river...might buy me one of those cool gas scooters for ride back though...

On the Cow Ruth would bring me and pontoon back to the put in. On other rivers I park an enclosed trailer with my motorcycle inside at the take out.
