Was out on Hood Canal and noticed a few nice marks on the sonar. They were running 120-140ft deep, near the Great Bend. What do you think they might be? Will it be worth trolling around come July?

I'm not sure but I was out crabbing recently and marked a lot of jellyfish!

It is hard to say what they were but last year I caught my first king july 18th near the hoodsport hatchery. I also know that some kings start coming up the Skok in mid July. Not many but some.

Could be anything...

Were you on the Union side of the bend? There use to be a great blackmouth hole just inside the bend called the Chicken Hole... Fairly popular in its time and even scored a big article in the old Fishin Holes magazine.

I don't know how well the canal fishes these days that far south... I imagine with oxyen problems it sucks. In its day..... !

What about the 6-gill sharks? I've heard that they are coming into the sound looking for food, as the Great Whites may be as well....

Downriggin,

That's the general area, pretty close to 200ft deep there. I was just killing time waiting to pull my crab pots and just scouting around. No big numbers of marks one here and a couple over there type of deal. You don't imagine they were flounder suspended off the bottom like that?
