If you could only choose from these two brands of hooks which would you use for Salmon and Steelhead? I'm hoping to settle a little argument with my brother.

Don't know about you guys but a lot of the VMC hooks I have fished, the hook point breaks off real easy. Get a snag it comes off and the tip is broken off to the point where it isn't even worth shapening.

I switched from Gammi to VMC a couple years ago. I like the grey (vanadium?) coated hooks. They sharpen up nice....The Gammis are rust-o-matics compared to VMC. I thought you guys liked the fancy owner and other yuppie hooks. I'm surprised VMC was chosen for this poll.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I bought one pack of VMC's once and tied up some leaders for trolling silvers.
First time I hooked up that day the hook broke at the bend and I lost my fish.
Bubbye VMC. Threw the rest of those rigs out.

Does that make your point to your bro?

Owner, Owner, and Owner. The biggest difference between Owner, Gamakatsu and VMC is simple. VMC is not worth the metal they are made from. Owner and Gami both chemicaly sharpened but owner will temper the hook after it is sharpened. Cant straighten them out! The cutting point has problems with the point breaking off below the barb. I think this it because the steel is thin at that point due to shaping the point. I only use the super needle points. I never carry a hook sharpener with me either. I'd rather tie a new hook on. throw away the old one.

Slab likes the VMC but uses the TDR rods too....He did win the Sekiu derby this year though....So he isn't totally stupid.

I like the Gamakatsu hooks and change them enough they don't rust for me. Once they're dull though forget sharpening.....I bought some VMC hooks that I think were 6/0 and I used them for tying up hootchies....got my biggest Chinook ever on those hooks and they didn't break of bend.

Seems like this BB tends to support the "flash" products as part of the "uniform" more than practical perfectly good products that cost much less. Nothing unusual there though. We all suck in for flash....except Slab , of course, but then he isn't too smart normally. all right then.

I've broken VMC hooks also. Gamakatsus do suck to resharpen, but I'd rather have to tie up again because of a hook being dull than to be worrying about it breaking at the bend. Gamakatus get my vote.

I don't use VMC hooks simply because they are french. I still boycott french made anything. I guess I hold a grudge.

Until Gamakatsu came along I always used Mustad hooks. I read alot about some of their newere thing wire hooks from some of the salmon "gurus"....I tried them last season and the Chinook bent the hell out of them. Now that I know VMC hooks are from France I guess I'll boycott them too.
