Looks like salmon fishing opens on the canal July 1st. Is the fishing going to be any good? Where's a good spot to start? Or should I just get my clams and crab and hit the shoreline.

Thanks
Kris

I think it's too early to tell. I've caught decent kings in early July north of Hoodsport. It just depends on where the run is at. I'd start out at the mouth of the Lilliwaup and head north until you hit them. Coho killers behind green/glo hot spot flashers are what have worked best for me.
I think after a few days we'll know how far along the run is.

I was out scouting around with my sonar ( while waiting to check my crab pots) and noticed some larger marks at 120-140ft the other day. I don't think there are a lot of fish there yet. But there should at least be a few blackmouth to be caught.

Regards,
Hans

What part of the canal are you going to be crabbing? If you are at the north end you could try just off the channel marker along Foulweather bluff. The silvers will stack up there first but there won't be much there until we get closer to the end of the month (July).
