Actually there is a big difference between egg patterns and a real egg. Egg patterns are inmataions (just like nymphs and some streamers), a real egg is just that, a real egg. I've caught trout on egg paterns before, not in Alaska. There is just more saticfastion catching a steelhead on a fly.

Either way, I think Parker was just joking (I hope) and my post was more of a sarcastic post.

Sorry you must of misunderstood my last post...
My main statement goes that the REAL reason from the beginning of Flyfishing time is that dudes use Imititation eggs or flies because of durability. So if you can get a REAL fly or egg to stay on your flyline, go for it and good luck on it staying on! I also did mention that there is an adrenalin difference when you catch a Steelhead on a fly as opposed to eggs on a flyrod.
No biggie to me, I'm just not trying to be tooo technical on the Real definition on Flyfishing. I'm trying to stay faaar away from being labled a purist or elitist... I consider myself a complete fisherman, more so leaning toward Flyfishing.

Settle down children. This isn't a fly fishing debate.

Even though I used an UEC "gut" pattern for that steelie, the week before I was over in Montaner flining small dries for those silly little trout.

In all honesty, it's fun, but I'd much rather fish bait, plugs, spoons, etc for steelhead/salmon than to pitch bugs for small trout or steelhead. It just doesn't do it for me.

I guess I don't qualify to be in the "Yuppy Elitist Bug Tossing" crowd.

I tend to fit in the "Quit screwing around, use some bait and Get Er Done!" crowd! ;\)
