Back at the office servely depressed today after a nice long weekend fishing out of Craig with Robbo. Incredible King fishing. We averaged 15-20 Kings a day with fish in the 20# range being "little ones." Plenty of nice butts too. Freezer is at capacity. Ruined me for fishing the salt. Here's a pic of my brother from Indiana with his first fish of the first day of the trip...he was spoiled for the rest of our trip. It weighed in at #51.9 after spending the day in the fishbox.

Rob has a great operation going up there and it's a hoot to stay in Craig and hang out (drink) with the "local color" after a long day on the water. And compared with the prices other lodges in the area charge for what you get, it's a super deal. This was my third trip to Craig and the first one that I actually paid for out of my pocket. The others were comped because I was writing a piece for STS and helping film a now-defunct fishing show. I'll gladly be doing it again. We're already getting our deposits together for next summer. For saltwater Kings I can't imagine a better place. Unlike some other AK locations, if the water is big offshore there are plenty of places just inside to pick them off. Here's another pic of that drooler. Now I'll have to listen to him rub it in everytime I go back to the Midwest....

Definately a two thumbs up for Robbo and his partner Bob Gray. My dad hit a 70lb HEN with Rob last summer, biggest verified king landed in that area all summer. I can only imagine how big her "husband" was and to think I might have had my herring close to a world record type fish...probably dreaming but that size of a fish is more of a loner type an might have just been hanging with one or two other toads. Do still feel bad that we took that big of a hen out of the gene pool but couldnt let that one go... GREAT FUN with those guys.

Looks like Tekota-LC's are working just fine up there!

Wurd. Those reels were awesome for mooching. Mark some fish at X on the screen. Drop herring down to X without much guesswork aside from figuring out the angle of your dangle. Very nice for the attention challenged like me.

As Homer Simpson would say, it's the medication that is the cause of, and solution to, all my problems.

While fighting a king today I had all the screws on the handle side, side plate back out on a Tekota 500LC, I still really like the reel but they aren't bullet proof. Another problem we've had is if the drag gets wet, it will surge.

Nice Hog! That's exactly what I need for the wall in my office! Was that Hog one of those infamous "white" kingers? Are all the big fish up there white kingers? I so wanna go up and fish with Robbo in July. It might be a while, as having another kid isn't going to help things with my fish spending account.

Parker: I don't know about the mix of big "whites" vs. "reds" up there. Rob could answer that better than I could. The meat off my brother's toad was all red, and tasty too.

No, parker doesn't want to catch white kingers - unless it's up out of Craig and they are in the 50-70 pound class!
I was just asking, as I thought I saw a thread by Doc that stated most of the big kingers coming out of SE AK were the white kingers species.

I would guess 10 to 15 percent are white, we've had a half a dozen from 52 to 68lbs. and they were all red.
