I am repowering my Trophy. \:D Been looking and I've got a pretty good deal right now on a Merc 150 Optimax Saltwater and a 4stroke 9.9 merc kicker. Both zero hours. Just wondering who have them and what they think? Any suggestions such as the smart pack?

Thanx... Either way in about a week I will have a couple of new motors and the Miss Taylor should be scootin' pretty good

Which Trophy? I should think that a 150 is a bit on the small side for the 20' Trophy. I had a 130 on an 18' Trophy at one time, and thought it somewhat lean.

I have that exact motor (the 150 Optimax) on the back of my 20ft Trophy and it moves along just fine! Cruises at 32kts, tops out at 43kts.
Trophy's are notoriously stern heavy, I don't know if I'd go much bigger, plus it keeps your fuel/GPH at a manageable level.

\:\) I have the 150 on my 18' outrage and it scoots it along just fine. \:D Also got the smart box but the early model where you have to scroll thru the functions. I'd opt for the new ones that display all the readings at once. Over 200 hrs and I'm averaging about 3.5 gals/hr running on plane or putting up the river.

Is'nt your boat a 24ftr? If it is you might consider the 250hp as the 150 might not be enough.

Merc Optimax 150 431lbs (per their website)
Suzuki DF 140 4stroke 410lbs (per their website)
Given the choice between 4 stroke and 2 stroke prop motor, I'd take the 4 stroke.
You could do away with the kicker unless you like it for get-home reasons.
I didn't check but I bet the Suzuki is a fair bit cheaper.
I'm just a 4 str fan and have good experience with Suzuki 4 str.

I like the sounds of cruzin' at 32. That's plenty.. The biggest you can go on that thing is 175 and I like the sounds of how the DPI sips the fuel. That's right Chase, I did see a 150 on your rig, sweet set up BTW, I bet that moves you from pt A to any ohter pt you want in some good time? \:\) I have the 2002. I was looking at those smart boxes and they are nice! Thanks all for everything. See you out there..

One last though, what size prop did you go with and what is your WOT with that size?

GL/TL

Chrome , one of the main reasons that I am going for this deal is I am paying exactly half of MSRP. Pretty much a deal I can't pass up.

Thank's though. I've had suzi before and they are great engines. They are always a great option.

Hey steelheaddude,

Did you ever sell that kick-a$$ 310 h.p. roller engine Wooldridge S.U.V. of yours?
