Hi there,

I am going to Anual Nootka Sound at Vancoucver Island trip this Saturday for 5 days. Any information? How is the fishing out there so far? Please let me know who had success recently. Where and how deep and what kind you were using to catch big king.

Fishing should be picking up by now in the sound itself. Last week all the fishing was outside in the ocean. Fish were being taken in 150 to 300' of water. Fishing was fast and furious for kings. With this hot weather you will have gales up there. In fact the wind is 30+ kts there right now. So you better hope more fish have moved in as the ocean is running 8' with 6 second intervals now. They were 17 second intervals yesterday so that tells you how much the wind has kicked up the seas. We never used bait but fished strictly with spoons, squid and plugs.

Hi Hoghunter.

When were you up there? Did you catch any? I usually go up to Hoiss Point near Critter Cove. What is the regulation line? Did you try Friendly cove? Please let me know. Thanks.

This is a board with lots of Vancouver Island Anglers. Check out the Salt Water Reports.

The poeple I know who have been there in the last week report pheonominal fishing, releasing everything under 25. One group came back with limits at 31-42 lbs. I foolishly passed on my trip this year, my partner left this morning without me. This last week I think they have had the best success at Ferrier on cut plugs.

Ayapai,
Check the gamefishin board. Gravy just returned and posted a report on his success.

I'll be in Nootka next week, staying at Tuta Marina. I have an open aluminum Harborcraft and usually stop by Critter Cove several times for gas/food/bait. Flag me if you see me and we can compare notes.

It cost me $500 to repair. My cable itself was really bad so they replaced it to brand new whole cable. Bad part was to remove motor. Labor itself was way more expensive than the part itself. But it is important, so I got to do it.
