Does anyone know where the name for Redhook brewery came from? Is it a reference to the Sockeye fishery since they were located in Ballard, a traditional fishing area?

Thats actually a very interesting idea. I believe Redhook is in reference to a very old German law that requires beer to be brewed with only 4 ingredients. Ballard Bitter is among my favorites.

The German law is called the Rheinheitsgebot(sp?) so I'm not sure how you can get to Redhook from there. But I agree that Ballard Bitters is one of the better ones out there.

I used to know this, it had slipped my mind. As a former drinker of the stuff, and stockholder/major fan, I had all the facts. I want to say it had something to do with the old transmission repair shop the place started up in, maybe not. Take the brewery tour, they'll tell you.
