Where is the best place to launch my boat if I want to fish the Nisqually area?

Thanks in advance!

SA,
If your fishing the salt , there is double ramp launch near the mouth of Mcallister Cr, also referred to as Luhr Bch. Pretty easy to find on the map.

Depending on the size of the boat you're launching, take a look at the ramp near Solo Point.

Solo Point will require a military ID or range pass. It is on Ft Lewis.

Luhr, Zittels', Puget.

If you go to Puget or especially Luhr, watch the tide! Luhr has a tiny channel that at a low- high tide is hard to negotitate. I had to get out and pull my buddies boat to find the one foot of water that floated him. Otherwise just plan on launching at high tide and taking out at high tide.

The locals will all be taking out at this time so be prepared to wait and wait and wait. Parking is limited on busy days. Don't forget your parking sticker, they always seem to have a fish counter and a sticker checker (was $66.00 fine).

Zittel's is a cruise both from I-5 to their launch and to the green can once you put in. But both are doable. Best choice for launch, parking, bait store and just plain ambiance (if that's what you rate ramps by...)

Puget sucks on low-low tides, you have to launch PAST THE DOCK! Which means you have to drive in the sand in 18" of salt for about 150-200 yards!.
Plus, Puget "fixed" (that's why it's getting fixed by someone else now) my lower unit- water pump etc.. and then young Charlie had the gall to charge me the $5.00 launch fee to test it out, AFTER I just handed him $400.00 !!

I boycott them now.

Hope that helps.

Agree with all said...especially Luhr....at anywhere close to low tide you could be walking your vessel out 200 yds or more....

Is Puget the ramp that is super super steep....?

Yep. Puget is really steep. Even the parking lot is quite sloped. It really isn't that bad, but given the choice.... Zittel's it is.
Also, I forgot about Stillacoom. I haven't been there for a LONG time, so no update here.
I am looking in to the Fort Lewis Pass for accessing the ramp over there. I'll report back.
