It's time! Lovely slabs of silver are swimming past your favorite Whidbey island beach. We fished it today and had a blast. Primary method was fresh herring under a float.

Grant Dilger with a nice one!

One of the ones I landed.

I even landed a summer run on a herring!

How do you rig a herring under a float? I never seen it done. Thanks in advance.

The way I've done it, (and I haven't done it much) is cut plug and rig it on a double hook like you would on your trolling rig. We ran that to those weighted bobbers to get some distance on the cast.

It would work pretty good off the concrete or beach there at Cromwell sometimes. You Know where that is don't you Capt. ;\)

What's weird is if you copy the url as stated above, paste them into this window and then hit the back button (explorer) then the pic is there. Do it for all three and you have all three pics in the thread. I know too much time on my hands.

Hey Richard,
If you had been there I would not have fished it. I would never impose on the Floa master

Sorry about the screw up om the earlier pictures, I thought if I could post them from my blog site they would show. Any how here they are in a smaller scale.

The last two are todays catch.

It was a little slower today because of the weeds in the water kept fowling the bait.

Someone has to hook me up with some info on this beach fishing on Whidbey. Never done it. I work on whidbey and live in Snohomish. It would save me a bunch of time fishing if I could do it right off the beach out here.

How deep is the water you are casting out to and hooking the fish?

I spend a lot of time on Hat/Gedney Island and would like to try this on that Island.

The biggest coho that I've caught off the beach were only 20 feet off the bank-- maybe 6' deep. I've caught lots of coho in less water than that.
