I think white kings taste great, some of them better than red meat kings. I caught one white and red king today and the white king goes on the Q tomorrow, the red will be smoked.

Alot of winter blackmouth that I have caught , which feed primarily on squid, were white kings. The flesh color is based on thier diet. More squid in their diet=whiter flesh. More shrimp in the diet=redder flesh. I have only caught 1 white returing fish until today. This hen wasn't all white, just predominately white with some red flesh, I guess you could call the meat marbled. She liked to mix it up!

I've caught many white kings at Sekiu some over 30#. They tasted great on the BBQ to me and it is actually nice to have a different flavor of salmon once in a while.

We caught several kings in Barkley(sp) Sound a few years back with this yellow spot. The biologist told us that they were from the Columbia River... It sounded good to us!!

Have caught kings and silvers with the yellow spots of varying size from dime size to silver dollar. I have seen this in the Columbia, Grays Harbor, and Westrport. Thirty one seasons of fishing river kings in Alaska.... never seen the golden blemish! Could it be something unique to fish originating from the PNW?

Canadian hatcheries mark thier fish with a yellow dye put on the lower rear portion of the fish...Ive heard. And the white kings are completely safe , they are a little more fatty I think than normal kings.

the reason they use a wand to scan fish is to detect a coded wire tag! it basically detects any metal in the fish, i.e. hooks and or a coded wire tag.
