Does this sound ridiculous?

First topic I've posted... so here it goes.
I was out fishing this morning off the west side of Whidbey Island (Lagoon Point). We picked up a quick 15 pound chinook which released nicely.
Then, we fished for 1+ hours without much happening. People around us were catching a few fish, and we weren't. So we tried different depths, different lures, bait, etc. We know a few things and worked our gear hard, so we were surprised that others seemed to be catching fish and we weren't.
Then we noticed that EVERYONE else seemed to be using using a green hot spot flasher, while we were using red. So... we changed to the green flasher and BAM! Not 3 minutes later we had fish #1 in the boat. Nice 8 pounder. Unfortunately, work beckoned, so we had to call it at that point with one in the boat.
So, the question-- does it matter if you have a red Hot Spot or a green Hot Spot flasher? Or do you think it could just have been coincidence?

What depth were you at? I know at certain depths it is easier for fish to see different colors.

I think any color is fine, as long as its GREEN!

There are two colors that will out produce all others. One is green and the other is white. White will out produce green. IMHO.

A quick check of my tackle box shows 5 green hot spots 1 red one and 1 white one. I'm obviously with o2B on this one - any color as long as it's green.
I remember about 6 years ago though when Red outfished green 2 to 1 - go figure.
Green squid get fished with confidence in my boat as well - caught 'em on many other colors but I always come back to green.
Green hotspot and green squid outfished herring on the silvers up at Neah Bay this year by about 4 to 1. I've had the same thing happen at B10 as well but then there's been years when herring get slammed and the the flasher/squid goes untouched. Don't know why it varies from year to year but it sure does. Moral is - if fish are in the area keep changing your offering until you find what they want.

Could be coincidence or it could be that green is the hot colour. Red may be hot tomarrow if you are not trolling too deep as Stlhd_dreaming suggests. As I recall, red is the first colour in the spectrum to go black as percieved by fish as the depth is increased. Can't remember what fish they got to "spill the beans", but that is what I recall reading.
I would be interested in knowing if there are any silver plated flashers out there; real silver (Ag), not nickel plate. Nickel to us humans, shiny baubles for the masses, appears much flashier than silver but will go "black" reflecting no light, while silver will still reflect light at much deeper trolling depths. Just a theory that may explain the long term success of Mepp's spinners, silver plated spinner blades.
Best of luck to you.

My first post/reply here too, so here's my humble opinion.
I've lived in Neah Bay, grew up in Sekiu, and have been living on the Lower Columbia for 8 yrs. I grew up commercial/sport fishing with my Dad in Neah Bay/Sekiu. Been using GREEN Hoochies, Coho Flies, Buzz Bombs, Divers, Flashers, Spinners w/green beads, Apex's, Salmon Killers, Spin-n-Glos, and the like for about 37 yrs.
Don't know for sure if it's coincidence or not but I'll throw green out first 99% of the time and go from there. Crossed the Bar and headed to the Ocean last Monday with 4 Anglers/Rods. 2 Rods had bait, 2 Rods had spinners. I threw out a red beaded spinner w/bronze blade and fished that for awhile till I put together a green spinner with a siwash. We fished that red spinner for almost an hour without a takedown. All other rods got hammered. Put my green spinner on and "WHAMMO", fish on. That's the most recent of many stories. Coincidence or not, stick with green for envy!!

Interesting points. I guess I agree with the green lure thing. For years my FAVORITE lures are green/glo hootchies and green splatterback coho killers. I picked up green/glo splatterback coyote spoons recently, too. I think they should be good for chinook this winter.
What seemed funny was that the color of the little plastic border on the flasher might make a difference.
Thanks all.

Red is the first color to go as you descend through the water column. After about 15 feet, all red light is gone. Red then looks black, unless it is flourescent paint, which can convert other wavelengths of light into red.
However, I do better with green even on the surface, so it might be more than that. I prefer a green hotspot or a white.
