I am new to fishing the Johns but curious to know what effects of this rain will do to the river? Will it blow out? Does it ever blow out? Will it spit a bunch of silt and mud? How has the fishing been since Sunday?

Yeah, kind of figured it wouldn't make too much of a mess, but because I am more familiar with the hump and haven't spent much time on the Johns, I wasn't really sure. I couldn't decide where I was going to fish tommorrow, still undecided, but was hoping someone could give me some reports on anyspot on the harbor. I heard the Chehalis picked up over the week, and a friend did OK at the mouth of the hoquiam on wed. Thanks for the help. MUCH appreciated!!!

Anybody hear anything more recent than what I heard?

Three words say it all:

Coastal Chrome Rules!

If Tony Floor can put a Hawg on the Seattle Times fishing page, it's safe to put one or two (OK three) "little piggies" on this board:

Here's a BEFORE shot of the first big'un of the season:

Here he is post-op day #1 AFTER a trip to my operating room:

Here's the second pig of the season.... at 43 x 26.5, this gold-hued buck was the biggest brought to my boat this season:

Finally a couple shots of piggy number three. This one was by far the cleanest of the bunch.... PURE CHROME.... too bad I didn't have my good camera aboard for these pics:

FYI I wouldn't worry so much about the rain muddying up the bay..... that's the least of your worries. At this point, I would be more concerned about how many fish got pushed higher into the system because of the rain.

Each big rain has really put fish on the move.... like this chrome king caught in one of the tribs. Except for Parker's infamous co-nook \:D ;\)
trib fish don't come any cleaner than this one:

That snow white-bellied 14# sea-liced chromer king blew right thru the bay, up the Chehalis, and into the..... OK, I'll leave it at that.

Hey now that wasn't parkers co-nook, that was my CHInook..... Yes it was a nookie and the chomest I've put in my hands that I can remember.. I think I'll blow that pic up for my wall. It's not often you see them that nice. Just wish it was up in the 40+ class and looked like that.

If your are talking about the one in the white bucket in this picture, it's my trusty fish-bonker.

If your talking about the one in this pic, I heard about some guy who wrote a book on how to use 'em... I've been told it's a pretty good read.

Doc,

Thanks for the post and the mouth watering pics!!! Those are awesome!! So do you think there are still some of those left for us rookies to be had? Just trying to decide if I am headed east to the family farm for some deer hunting, or if I should stay and try for a hog!?!?

It's all in the camera angle.... the fish is really being viewed from belly to back, and the mid-section of the fish is curved down into the water, hence the "skinny' appearance on this otherwise very girthy king. The key feature belying the fish's true girth is the beefy tail "wrist".... it was all I could do to get my hand around it.

I still can't believe that we didn't get one decent C&R shot of this fish. This singular photo just did not do that fish any justice... not to mention that my digicam card holds 90+ 4 megapixel shots.... not like the photographer was under any pressure to conserve film.

No one else on the boat felt comfortable leaning out to pose the fish for a picture (yeah that's me on the transom leaning way out from the mini-swimstep with my outstretched hand barely holding the salmon's seal-scarred tail). Problem is no one else aboard wanted to lean out over the side or balance on the 9" coaming gunnel (even with four other guys on the boat to secure the photographer) to snap a glare-free photo either. Sure could have used one of my gymnast daughters on board for that one.
