Well that's not true.........tribal and non tribal have caught lot's of fish.

Heard that you can "buy, right out of the net", any silver you want.........$10.00.....this is tribal person selling........that was today, 10-19-04

I can top that one DrifterWA.... how about a 30# tribal gillnet-caught king going for $5.00.... no typo folks. That works out to a little under $0.17 per pound.

Fished it today...Never been there before and had a little trouble figuring out the channel to get from the launch and out into the main fishing area....pretty shallow....Fished it for three hours and caught a dogfish.. There was about 10 boats total. Used a green fish flash and cut plug with 2 oz weight. One guy caught one with an identical fish flash in red.

Saw the one King caught. Checked out Monty on the way home and it was DEAD! Will be waiting for other action to start now. Sounds like the OP might be the place to be now.

The fish are still there....Next time try a 6-8 oz lead..bounce the bottom and use the large red Fish Flash.

Gramp's -

You've had good results with Red for Nook's?

I thought green or chartruese were the go-to colors for fish flash.

Bought a blue and a purple one the other day- will try those next year.

LarryB- What are white nets?? Is it the kind I waive around when I land my fish???

Full Freezer....I noticed a few years ago that all the guides were using the large red Fish Flash so I started using them with more success than without. I think it might be that the red shows up better in the turbid water. Water is so shallow that there is no need to use green. Usually you use green due to the depth because red disappears at very shallow depths and just looks grey. GH is only 25' or so or even shallower.

Nice new avatar for FPN!!!! That fish looks to be about 70" long and about 48" around....maybe a 150# Chinook!!!!!

Nah, Grandpa.... the only 150#er in that pic is me. The fish was actually 102 x 64.... centimeters, that is. \:D
I'll keep everyone guessing on the size, but let's just say it all depends on the "angle to the dangle".

Lets see! 102 cm x 64 cm translates to 40" x 25" which = 32 lbs. (roughly) \:D

Fishdoc,

That fish measured 129.5cm X 78.75cm and was caught this past summer off Noyes Is. in S.E. Alaska, it was actually caught on a buddy of mine's boat and the fish broke the net, Nick, (the guide) frantically grabbed a gaff while the fish is danglling from a broken net and stuck the fish thru the gills and flipped it over the gunnel all in 1 motion, it was pretty funny to watch but also lost alot of blood.

WOW AK, that's a big ass fish!

If that length was snout to mid fork on the tail, my formula calculates out to 66 pounds. That's DOUBLE the size of the runt I'm hoisting in my latest avatar.

Having grown up as a guy with a very slight build, I have found exceedingly few advantages to being a "little guy", but posing a big fish for an impressive picture is definitely one of them!

FYI the live weight of the king in my avatar was 33# fully bled, but not fully dehydrated.

Hydration status is probably the biggest factor in how accurately any formula can predict a fish's true weight.

AK,

Do you have a recommendation for guided fishing off Noyes Is?

I have been interested to try fishing west of POW Island instead of the Sitka scene.

Slabquest, this is where I've guided for the past 10 years http://www.waterfallresort.com/ and obviously would recommend. There are a # of good lodges/resorts in the area, a couple others to consider are B Gray or Robbo (PP board members) who both fish the same area I do.

If you want to know what a big larda$$ I am the fish in my avatar is about the size of the one in Docs. Thats a ambasadur 7000 on a 10.5' stick under the fish and I was pushin 350...I got to get a bigger boat or a smaller plate...
