Congrats to you! I have about 5 more years to go. Some of my fishing buddies are retiring and those that are love it. The only problem I see though is that many of them are so busy in retirement that they rarely have time to fish.

I hope you have many happy years ahead of you.

Happy Retirement!

I would love to have more time for projects, traveling and fishing. Not necessarily in that order.

What are you going to do with your time?

Congrats! I retired from the Navy Aug 31. Haven't figured out if I'm really done or just shifting gears, but I love the free time for fishing.

Thanks Guys. Hope I can Fish, Fish, and more Fish. I've been so busy working I have not really had time to enjoy myself for a long time. I have not been Hunting for more than 20 years and the fishing trips have also been few.

Retirement and fishing is a dangerous combination. I'm not retired, but I've got extended time off from work. As a result I've spent near every day on the river. What I've noticed is that fishing is starting to seem like work and that scares me. Make sure you've got lots of hobbies, aside from fishing, like maybe tying flys or building rods or whatever.

My point is, and I never thought I'd say this, but fishing CAN get boring and if you do enough of it the excitement-factor can slowly fade. One of the things that makes fishing special, in my mind, is that it gives you something to look forward to during the dreaded work week. It helps to keep one motivated in life. But what I'm discovering, is that I need to get back to work before fishing becomes just a routine and isn't "special" anymore. Also, try different methods. For instance if you're a single-handed fly-guy, build a spey rod and master that technique. It serves two purposes. One, it gives you something "else" to do and two, it can help you become a more productive steelheader.

Good luck and enjoy your retirement. I've only got 30 more years.
