Anybody ever fished this stuff?

It's cheap and I assumed it is crap, but my buddy fishes it exclusively (both leader and mainline) and is always one of the top producers on the river.

I witnessed him catch a 40 lb King in the Toutle on 12 lb Ande line. What the ?????????

I'm tired of spending $70 each year on the big spool of Ultragreen.

Is it fishable?

I'm going to go againt the grain and say my experience with the stuff has been short of satisfactory. I've tried it on a couple of occations over the years and it was always brittle. I usually had to tie three or four knots before I got one that wouldn't break when stress checked.

Maybe I got old line each time but I didn't like it.

I also use Ande for my mainline and leaders. It has been very reliable. I have been using it for over 5 years. I have never had the problem Sol_on_the_Duc described.

Ande envy is great for bobber fishing for steelhead or salmon. Very easy to see but dissapears in water. Only problem i have had was one spool we bought broke every 50 yards or so. Must have been defective or it was someone with a knife and something against Ande. Either way great line.

I have used Ande a lot, but not for quite a while, because there are better lines for just a bit more money. My current favorites are Trilene Big Game and Izor Line. They are nearly as good as Ultra Green at about a third the cost.

Good fishing.

I just relined both of my steelhead reels with the Ande HiVis in yellow 12lb. I also bought a spool of 10lb Ande Flourocarbon. Both lines are really nice! The HiVis is awsome for drifting! It's very abrasion resistent and very visible even in low light.

The flourocarbon leader has the best dispensing spool I have ever used. Unlike a lot of flourocarbon it is very easy to get a good knot and I have had no complaints.

Many years ago I got a spool of Ande that was very brittle so I didn't buy it again for a long time. A few years ago I bought another spool and it worked great. My guess is that the brittle line was old line that sat on the shelf before I bought it. Just a guess. I've had that happen with Maxima too.

Gotagofishin:

Have used Ande Green for my leader materials for over 25 years........never had any problem at all.

I now use Ande "Envy", 8, 10 or 12 pound, on all my spinning reels. The 8 and 10 cast, oh so good.......and I can see the line. DOES NOT affect my summerrun "bobber and jig" fishing, and it so nice for boondogging winterrun steelhead.

Have 1 level wind with 12 pounds Envy, that I use for Salmon fishing........casting plugs and spinners.

Price is right........around $5-6 for 675 yards of 10#.......

Been fishing it for....25 years??? When I worked SoCal charters the pink line was my "go-to"...the green is every bit as good as max..in fact better IMHO...less stretch, and no lb test diameter hype (IE, 10 lb is the diameter of 15).

I have used ande 6 for trout and it was ok. I use a mitchel 300X and had some twisting issues that i did not have with other lines. Other then that i would say ande is a good, all around line.

I ried it once for steelhead. I tried it because the price was right, I usually use UG. I think I tried 12lb. I had trouble gettibg used to it - it kind of feels like it has more stretch then UG. The different feel changed the feel when I was drifting gear. I wouldn't say it was bad line compred with others, just different. I think I will probably try it on my DR rods since feel is not so important.

Used a lot of different lines in my time. Usually it boils down to cost vs performance, but not ever time. When drift fishing for steelhead, I use Izorline Yellow so I can see my line early in the morning and late in the evening. The color DOESNOT bother the fish! For leader I alternate between UG & Izorline. 10 lb. main line 8 lb. leader. Mike 8 lb. UG vs. Izorline and it has a larger diameter. There always seems to be a compromise between casting ability & abrasion resistance! Raft-Cat

Hi All

Over the years I've tried many different brands and I always come back to the Ande. I know what to expect. Very few kinks and breaks and I know when I'm using 15lb test and hook a good sized KIng how much muscle I can use. Plus the price is right.

I love this stuff! I fish it in the salt for Kings, Lings, etc. I also fish it in freshwater for Steelies, etc. I've used it for 15+ years. For me it's a toss up between Ande (green or tournament) and Maxima UG. Usually it comes down to cost and I buy Ande. Only once have I been disappointed and it was because I bought the line at White Elephant in Spokane(cool store, but they sell OLD fishing line). The line ended up being very old and therefore was brittle. When you switch your line every season or more often, Ande is my choice......

I have also had a lot of success with Ande. I can't recall any problems other tahn user error. I had 12lb Ande on my plug rods for years and we landed several hard fighting Steelies in the 15lb-18lb range each year on the stuff, and never had any fish break off.

I use ande green exclusively, best bang for the buck without exception:

8 lb for running eggs & jig bobber for steelhead from the bank on small rivers & from sleds on the cowlitz in the summer - open face reel sedona 2000 RA

10 lb from the bank @ blue creek for summer steelhead w/bait caster reel Ambassador & from sleds in the winter - open face reel Sedona 4000 RA

12 lb @ barrier for fall chinook - bait caster reel ambassador

25 lb out of westport all summer & in the sound after august - Penn 309 reel...

for the price & performance there is really no other line close in value, the knots hold, the line casts & lasts, & the line power is outstanding, i.e. many steelies in the teens w/ the 8 lb test, several springers over 20 with the 8 lb test...

Ande's is good for mainline on baitcasters

It sucks on spinning reels, for that go with Izor Premium.

For leaders Ande's is not very abrasion resistant, go with Maxima

If there was one thing that I should pay more attention to when maintaining my fishing equipment it should be my line, I have read where people change their spools weekly or even more often. Might sound a little crazy to some but the same spool of ande 12lb mono that I use for springers is the same spool that I use for the freight train chums on the nisqually in january. I love that stuff. and even after an entire year of fishing I don't have any problem with it. then when the dogs are gone I go pay another 5 bucks for a spool and I am good for another year.

Ande tested out pretty well in the line test that was produced a couple years back, not great but not bad. I have used it for years though with good sucess and cannot remember a time when it failed me on a big fish. One thing worth noting though is the Trilene Big Game is about the same price and tested out slightly higher than Ande. They are both good monos.

Well, I went out this weekend and answered my own question.

I lined up with Ande green #12 and hit the Skok.

6 Cojo's (4 of which are now dead and vaccuum packed) and at least 12 chum will verify my story. Only two break-offs and both were at the leader which was #12 Maxima Ultragreen.

Thanks for all the input....you all saved me some $.

The line was so cheap (I found two 1000 yd spools for $5 each at outdoor emporium) and I was so happy I actually let some total stranger line up with it when she got spooled.

WOW! I can actually afford to be nice to other people now.

Don't let anyone talk you out of using ande, give Envy a try.......you can see it, and it won't cut down on your fish catching.

You "cut a fat hog", getting the line that cheap.........Way to go!!!!

i wont touch the stuff. it may have worked ok for ya and it has for me in the past. but wait till it freezes a couple of times or goes thru anything that tests it while it is not brand new.
i am not saying that you will break-off all your fish if you use it but..... ive had way too many break offs for no reason with the stuff to ever use it again. we call it "handi" because you are definately handicapping yourself if you use it. it is not that every spool or type of Ande is bad but it seems to have way way more weak spots than izorline or maxima .
may be different in the summer but for winter steelhead... no way!!! i wont spend the money that i do to go fishing and then loose a trophy over saving a few dollars on line.

all ande, all the time....been that way for years...12lb has handled fish to 50+...if you can, get your hands on the ande fluorocarbon, steelhead beware!!!! i need to locate larger spools of the stuff though, you buy the leader spools and only 1/100th of the spool has line on it...if they're only going to sell it in those quantities, they should use the little leader spools similar to mccoy mean green

Got Ande on my baitcaster now.....ugh. Stuff has a memory like an elephant....a pain in the arse. Wouldn't hesitate to use it on my salt gear, but for casting....forget it.

I'll stick with Eagle Claw LazerLine, silky smooth, tough, low memory and reasonable price. My two cents.

wow, some passion in this thread...and happy customers for the most part.

First, I would ask, what do you want the line to do? Most lines are a series of engineering and or cost compromises. I have had good luck (with some help from Tom at ASM) w 20# Izor mainline in the salt running off riggers. I do use 25# Seaguar Flouro for leaders for plugs and spoons and 40-50# TripleFish for flashers.
As to cost, I agree w poster who said line is cheap compared to lost fish or dreams...

lupo, preciate the input but i've fished ande too many years, caught too many fish over the years in too many different to buy your breaking off story, check your knots ...
