I am thinking of going a bit farther North for run Kings this year. Would appreciate inputs on Shearwater area, times to go, etc.. Will probably tow to bella Coola and put in there and run to Denny Isle.

10 of us fished out of the Shearwater resort back in July. Had a great time , great staff, etc. We got a package deal since a friend of ours fished up the a couple of years ago. Everyone brought home limits of salmon. We also brought home a 26 pound ling.
We did the fly in all inclusive package and could have been happier (and tired from yarding in all the fish). We were there about a month early for the real big fish but everything was 14 lbs or bigger. Our largest was 22. Biggest for the group was 35. It's tough throwing back 10 and 12 pounders all day when you're used to fishing the Sound.
Check out their website at Shearwater.ca. Or reply back and I'll be more than happy to explain our whole package.

Thanks. I have been to that website and sent them an e-mail request for info. They called me less than 24 hours later.

When did you fish? When are the Pigs there?

Sounds like you had great time \:\) )))

thanks for the info

Sorry for the long wait. Big honey do lists before vacation.
We fished in mid July. I think I remember them saying the big ones were more into August. We booked a little later in the year so all those spots were gone already. We'd go back in a hearbeat but I have a free Marlin trip in Australia waiting on me next year. It's good to have globetrotting friends!l

Thanks for the reply. Still thinking about it. IF I go it will be Mid-August anyway. Aussie trip is your best bet for Grander marlin - good to have globe travelling frnds \:\) BTW, there is pretty good article on top ten Marlin spots, including Cairns in Dec 2004 issue of Sportfishing mag. Good luck.

I have fished some other resorts near there. Hakai Pass and North King Lodge-a little closer to Shearwater. You will not be sorry. I took a bunch of spoons up there. The coho are huge and extremely tough and fast. 14-22 pounds. Don't take any mediocre tackle. I had two coho killers trashed by the coho. Broke one in half and corkscrewed another. These coho turn directions so fast they unscrewed the split rings on three of my huge spoons taking the hook off of the spoons. We were fishing for kings, but the coho are there too.

By the way, the two biggest kings were 45 and 46 pounds.

I stopped in Bella Bella on the way up to King Salmon AK in late May. a guy at the dock said he had good success on the springs, he had one about 20 LBS. As I flew out I noticed a some large schools of fish and bait a little north of shearwater.

"Don't take any mediocre tackle"....that seems like da** good advice anywhere...Thanks for the post. 46# is super fish. I have been fishing the W coast of the island in various spots, many fish in the hi 30's to mid 40's, nothing above 50. I have seen a few real 50's. So I head North. Picked Shearwater because I can fish both there and Hakai.
BTW, Coho Killer is an excellent King lure , esp w welded rings - you can get them that way at factory. They tend to get unbent but that just seems to make them fish even better with the warped twist they get. Had 4 fish right at 40 in 50 minutes off Catala w my Dad. brass and silver spoon w red Hotspot flasher....Great lure at Tofino (off Portland Pt) mid-water this summer also.
Again thanks for the info.
