I buy the 51-60 count cooked prawns. Some people use the raw ones but I've had better luck with them cooked. I can cut each into 2-3 pieces. I don't usually cure them but I've tried putting them in red dye cure before. They're cheaper than sand shrimp by the dozen. I just thread them on and secure them with a bait loop. They last a long time on the hook.

I buy them raw whenever I have a batch of eggs to cure up. I shell and butterfly them a bit and just toss them in with the curing eggs. I've had better results with a pink cure rather than a red one.

I like raw and pealed. The size you cut them into is up to you. I put them on just like you would eggs.

reyns:

Been using prawns since 1987, the year I bought my 87 chev truck.

I buy the 51-60, 2 pound package. When I get home:

1. peel.

2. then take a filet knife, cut down the middle, longways. Works better to be partly frozen.

3. take a "days fishing".......12 - 20 halves.

4. Vaccum seal

Take out night before, although sometimes forget this and do day of.

Put "thick end" thur egg loop........let the tail end "wiggle".....use cheater or corkie above.

Works for Hoh springers, and winter/summer steelhead.

Have played with the color bit, maybe it was just a bad day.......but plain just seems to work for me!!!!

Believe me.........buy when on sale........2 pounds of prawns.....$8 - $10 worth, will last most of a winter fishing. A plus thing, they stay on the hook soooooooooo much better than sandshrimp.

just bought a dozen raw, sliced them straight down the middle and cut most of those halves in half, they not only look good but they smell GREAT!!!, kept a couple of halves to try the drifterwa "wiggle" method

one last question though, im going to use them on both saturday and sunday, will they last in just a yogurt container in the fridge?

thanks for the help,
reyns

I buy the 50 ct tiger prawns and just zip lock freezer them whole about six to a bag. When I leave in the morning I grab a bag from the freezer. they thaw fast. Pull a piece of prawn off about the same size as the corky I'm using and hook and egg loop it. I use the wiggler with spin and glows. Left overs go right back in the freezer. They are still good. The nice thing about prawns are that they work, the small fish can't get them off as easy, you can cast hard if you want they stay on better than eggs or sand shrimp, I use small pieces so they are a more natural drifting bait and most steelhead absolutely slam them.
